All sounds good except for the top rate thing. If i'll be getting a job at UPS in 2018, and it takes a few years to become driver and progress. I hear that the new drivers will never see top rate because of the new contracts. Is this true lmao?

To get back on topic, one option that you might have in the future is to go to feeders. It used to take a lot longer to get a call from them to get your Class A permit and get trained but now it seems the wait is a lot shorter, at least at my hub it is. I know of 4 younger drivers who all in the past month left package to go to feeders. The reason? They go straight to top scale instead of a 4 year progression. Plus their top rate is a little higher than package. Only thing is the work hours are totally different. So to @Lucidd keep feeders in mind once you get enough part time seniority to be considered for a full time position.

there is only one good thing about the job: Money.
Problem is I value time with my family. So I feel as though I am not cut out for this UPS life... and.. I enjoy working with people. I did not realize how much impact that has on me.
And, I enjoy doing well at a job.. so if I do well at UPS, I will get a heavier load in the future. Not Good.
So, if you like money, can deal with only seeing family on weekends, and can deal with just keeping your head down and doing just enough, UPS may be a great fit.
I am looking elsewhere.. however it is very hard to walk away from the money (check+benefits).

Personally I never imagined working nights in this trade. I have worked in several different shops, this is my first union shop, overall I honestly believe this has been the best position I've held as a mechanic so far. I tend to have a lot of easy nights but when the nights get hard they tend to be really really hard. As far as compensation goes, I think my family has benefited from this job tremendously so far and unlike most other jobs it seems that it will only get better for us from here on so yes, the benefits outweigh the negatives as far as I'm concerned. I have worked much harder for less pay/benefits for many years.

Time Is Money And Money Is Scarce
Clocking out and going home. If it wasn't for the healthcare benefits I would not have stayed. The best workers are pushed to work harder while the least effective workers are coddled or fill the ranks of management. Go figure.
