Last stop of the day, arrive at Lowes.. knock on the door. The woman comes to the window in the door, tells me 5 minutes. I said okay I will come back tomorrow. Next thing I know a guy comes to the door say's I need to wait 5 minutes. I say "tomorrow" and walk away. He is hollering something but I don't care. Should I have waited? They act like I have nothing better to do. 5 minutes can turn into 10 minutes..... Wasn't going to re-attempt because it was my last stop, and also our station hasn't cared about re-attempts in months.

If I had enough time to return to my building without being late, AND the customer wasn’t giving me attitude, I might have said that I only had two minutes to wait. And left after that. Any pm ops manager worth their salt would back you up and tell you not to wait.

If the ready time is before your arrival and the pup’s not ready when you get there, you have no obligation to wait. Business customers, especially, should know that.

I once had a new regular pickup who asked if I could wait five minutes for them to get it ready. When I told them no, they said “You can’t wait five minutes?!” and “You’re the first FedEx person to say no.” Oh yeah, this was right in the middle of peak. There were a couple of times after that where I was ahead of schedule and gave them a couple of minutes.

A friend at work tells customers that he can wait, but if he does then their stuff won’t make it onto the plane.

Is it a normal thing and are they being asses about it ? If it’s not a normal thing than I would wait. Some people you need to set the tone this way but be careful because it can backfire.

You wait the 5 minutes they asked for THEN leave. Businesses always get a same day re-attempt unless things have changed since I left. Don't be an ass and do your job next time.

Had a delivery at a farm parts store. Said hello as I came in, only customer says hello but guy behind counter doesn't say anything. He's looking at a computer screen. I wait for about 5 minutes and then he walks from computer to another part of the counter. Figure that's my chance, say in a friendly, respectful tone "Excuse me sir, have a package for you, could I get a signature please?" He literally yells at me "You just stand right there, I'll deal with you in a minute!" Husky guy with a beard, maybe 32-34 yrs old. As he said it I glanced at pkg and saw it was due the next day so I said, in a respectful tone, "Oh, I see this is due tomorrow. Since you're busy I'll just bring it back then." I turned and walked out, smiling with my back to him. Next day my manager calls me wanting me to explain this complaint. When I reattempted he wasn't there but the boss was, and he asked my why I didn't deliver his pkg the day before. I told him what happened, and he said that was different than what his guy told him. But he seemed to believe me and that was the last I heard about it.

You aren’t very clear but I’m guessing it was a delivery? I would tell them I only had two minutes to wait, that way it looks like you’re compromising. At exactly two minutes, I’d be outta there!

Just telling it like it is
friend Lowe’s. Customers like that think you’re in the favor business. Today wait 5 minutes and more than likely it’ll turn into 10. Tomorrow, how ‘bout waiting 15 or 20?

If every customer tried that, not a whole lot would get done.

Walgreens was the worst. Receiving door only, manager would jump your ass if you came through front door. Pharmacy only could sign. Wait 5-10 minutes for Receiving door to be answered, had to be 'escorted' through secure area to Pharmacy, where the 'escort' would promptly disappear. Meaning you couldn't get back through secured area and would have to walk through front door, around building back to your truck.
Knew a courier who, after being sucked into the vortex one too many times, would simply slap a doortag on the receiving door, ring the buzzer, and drive off to their next stop. Couldn't blame the guy.

**************. With a negative attitude like you seem to have, its a wonder customers didn't complain on you daily.

Funny that I’ve seen so many complaints about Walgreens but I’ve always gone through the front door. Lol.

I seldom deliver to Walgreens, but on pickups I always walk right in to what ever area I need.

To OP: Did you talk with your manager about this? What did they suggest?

Bingo! There’s a newish driver at my station who still waits 20 minutes every day for the same customer. I’ve asked my manager to give me that stop.

I only had one WAG that was militant like this. When ARTH was rolled out and they were directed to permit us thru the front door, I moonwalked in front of the bitchy manager and went "huh, now the front door is good enough for us, eh?". She wanted to bitch but she knew I was only following directions now.

Sound like a wal mart I used to del to. I could be pulling up and they would close the door. A holes. Even if door shut when arrived you could hear people and they took their sweet time to answer. Used stopwatch on cell phone ,no answer in 3 min Tagged it and left.Rec closed at 11 am so no return 99.9 % resi rte now, don’t miss biz stops at all.

I'm with him on that one. There were some customers who were cool but there would be issues where it would simply take a long time and there wasn't much working around it. It was worthwhile to work with them figure out something to make it easier for us both.

Then there were people who simply didn't GAF about my time and screw them, I guess it'll be a PITA for you until you get so tired of it that you're willing to play nice. I was capable of inconveniencing them WAY MORE than they could inconvenience me. :D

:censored2: like that got coded refused. Want to be an :censored2:? Two can play that game.

I found once they had to explain to their manager why stuff was being refused, the situation got cleared up real quick.

The WalMart I used to deliver to did the same thing. This cranky old bat answered the door after 3-5 minutes if I was lucky but she'd usually take her lunch 10+ minutes early so even though it said receiving 7-11:30, I'd get there at 11:20 and no answer. Only more annoying stop on that route was the WalMart DC which was worse for other reasons.
