Is it a normal thing and are they being asses about it ? If it’s not a normal thing than I would wait. Some people you need to set the tone this way but be careful because it can backfire.
Seems normal for Lowes... We have one that has the drug tests up front for new hires, also has a regular in the back, but never answer the door.
The WalMart I used to deliver to did the same thing. This cranky old bat answered the door after 3-5 minutes if I was lucky but she'd usually take her lunch 10+ minutes early so even though it said receiving 7-11:30, I'd get there at 11:20 and no answer. Only more annoying stop on that route was the WalMart DC which was worse for other reasons.
Had a Walmart pull that once at 1145 with a 1200 close, I could see them through the window in the door(now its covered with cardboard),
so I had a pharmacy delivery that day too, so I loaded up a shopping cart, rolled that crap straight to the back, they said no can't take it, I said who/where is the manager, they pointed and said "Joe Blow"(changed name) over there I rolled up to him and he said I'll have to come back tomorrow, I said, JOE your are recieving this and if your guys pull the same stuff ever again before your close time it'll be refused with your name "Joe Blow" on it.. never had a problem again.

Last stop of the day, arrive at Lowes.. knock on the door. The woman comes to the window in the door, tells me 5 minutes. I said okay I will come back tomorrow. Next thing I know a guy comes to the door say's I need to wait 5 minutes. I say "tomorrow" and walk away. He is hollering something but I don't care. Should I have waited? They act like I have nothing better to do. 5 minutes can turn into 10 minutes..... Wasn't going to re-attempt because it was my last stop, and also our station hasn't cared about re-attempts in months.
My rule was this: if you’re a dick about it, see ya tomorrow. If you’re nice, then I’ll wait as long as I reasonably can. You can tell when someone is just having a rough day or when they have an axe to grind.

I go in the front both Walgreens and CVS. CVS use to give me problems. One of the clerks would follow me around the store. She said I wasn't allowed to deliver the package to the pharmacy without a notifying them first. I told her I wasn't going to do that, and if she had a problem she could complain to Fedex. Now she just ignores me.

Usually when you are a jerk to the customer, they return the favor. Sounds like that is the case with you judging from your posts on this subject.

Nothing to see here.... Move along.

When they know you are about business, you get very little pushback.

Change your methods.

Good luck.

Walgreens was the worst. Receiving door only, manager would jump your ass if you came through front door. Pharmacy only could sign. Wait 5-10 minutes for Receiving door to be answered, had to be 'escorted' through secure area to Pharmacy, where the 'escort' would promptly disappear. Meaning you couldn't get back through secured area and would have to walk through front door, around building back to your truck.
Knew a courier who, after being sucked into the vortex one too many times, would simply slap a doortag on the receiving door, ring the buzzer, and drive off to their next stop. Couldn't blame the guy.
Having delivered to countless Walgreens over the years, I did the best thing possible with my new one. Make friends immediately with all of the employees. I'm in and out in 5 minutes with a delivery and daily pickup, plus the pharmacy call in. IT CAN BE DONE!

That's Old School FedEx, and is no longer allowed by Best Practices. Cultivating any type of relationship with a customer is now deemed unprofessional and counter-productive. You must learn to limit your interactions to a cold, proficient method, so that when the robots and drones displace you, the customer will not notice.

So, please, for the sake of FredEx, discontinue your archaic methods. LOL

Sounds like you don’t know how to control the delivery situation
In most cases, if you are an ass to the customer, they will be an ass to you. Both of cosis post were about him being an ass to the customer. Kill them with kindness. It will work most of the time, not always.

I don't need to control any situation, I am retired.

I disagree, I don't go in acting like an ass to anyone. When they are disrespectful, I simply let them know it isn't going to fly. In my experience they usually back off. When you become a doormat they walk all over you.

You made 2 post boasting about telling a customer what you were and were not gonna do and not providing decent customer service and you don't consider that being an ass? Nice

Customers need to be trained within a semi-rigid set of acceptable parameters, otherwise they will jerk you around, negatively affecting the other customers on your route.

No need to be rude, just establish the rules.

Yes - I assume you bent over backwards and got paid the same. Today is different. The pimply faced 16 year old kid at Chic-fil-a gives you lip about not walking the package in the door and setting it in the office you draw the line.

In other words, you are an ass to your customers.
