This thread was started a couple weeks ago, and now its time to figure what went wrong...??
First and foremost, Romney was the wrong candidate at the right time. Obama was going to win no matter who the GOP put up against him and the GOP knew it. Like i said before, the GOP merely wanted to get Romney out of the way for 2016 when they have the best chance at winning the white house.
Second, Romney didnt earn the nomination, he merely bought the nomination by outspending the other candidates in each state and they just couldnt keep up with him without going broke. This did two things. It eliminated his competition and insured he would be the only one standing before the primary season was over.
Third, Romneys original campaign staff were a bunch of idiots and they got off to a rough start. They had to let go two gay advisors before the christians freaked out and then they had the dumbest people as spokesholes. Those spokesholes said many dumb things on air that had to be corrected until they were replaced in late september.
Fourth, Romney himself "GAFFED" his way through summer and constantly had to have a spokeshole correct him afterwards.
Fifth, in late august, Romney let Tim Pawlenty go and began the replacement of his advisors with GW BUSH advisors including Karl Rove and John Bolton. While in late september, the BUSH advisors got the race close, but Romney just couldnt control his "gaffes". The 47% video was a wound that he would never recover from. You could call it his "swiftboat moment".. You may not like it, but its what the GOP did to John Kerry.
Sixth, While Romney took the lead in october and led for most of the month, his last two debate performances proved that he wasnt ready for primetime. The president humiliated him in both debates.
Seventh, Romneys biggest achilles heel was his flip flopping history, and that showed that he couldnt be trusted to keep his word. He flipped on several issues key to this election and that was never going to fly with the american public who was paying attention.
Eighth, the numbers were never going to go his way, hispanics, blacks, women, whites just rejected his candidacy. The numbers bear that out.
Pat Cadell, the FOX news talking head, predicted a Romney victory, but just last night, began to disect Romneys campaign being extemely critical of his approach to the election.
Either way, Romney is out of the way for 2016. Damage done, money spent. He repeated his fathers legacy.
Its been a fun 11 months. Thanks for the interaction!
