Mexican Pirates Attacking U.S. Boats INSIDE USA

Pirates plying the waves of Falcon Lake

By Lynn Brezosky – Express-News

McALLEN —
Heavily armed Mexican freshwater pirates have been shaking down U.S. boaters on Falcon Lake, a reservoir and bass fishing haven that straddles the Rio Grande.
At least three such incidents have been reported since April 30, the latest on Sunday, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety warning issued Tuesday that linked the muggings to northern Mexico’s increasing lawlessness.
According to descriptions of the incidents, the robbers — in at least one case posing as Mexican federal law enforcement officers — searched fishermen’s boats for guns and drugs, then demanded cash at gunpoint.
One of the incidents reportedly occurred on the U.S. side of the lake.
“The robbers are believed to be members of a drug trafficking organization or members of an enforcer group linked to a drug trafficking organization who are … using AK-47s or AR-15 rifles to threaten their victims,” the DPS statement said. “They appear to be using local Mexican fishermen to operate the boats to get close to American fishermen.”

It was unclear why sport fishermen were targeted, but the warning comes only a few weeks before bass fishing tournaments that are among the South Texas border region’s biggest tourist draws.
DPS spokesman Tom Vinger said the warning was issued in part because of the upcoming tournaments.
Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said he would be discussing security concerns with tournament participants and has been reviewing protective measures with the DPS Border Security Operations Center and the region’s Fusion Center, a federal information clearinghouse for terrorism prevention and response.
Reported victims included:
• Five people in two boats who were approached by four tattooed men April 30 claiming to be “federales” near the church at Old Guerrero, a once-submerged town on the Mexican side of the lake. The men boarded their boats, demanded cash and asked “where are the drugs?” They then took $200 from the Americans and followed the boats until they re-entered U.S. waters.
• Three fishermen who were approached May 6 by a boat containing two men who pointed AR-15s — the civilian version of the U.S. military’s M-16 assault rifle — at them. One boarded the fishing boat, searched for drugs, cash and guns, chambered a round in his rifle and told the fishermen he would shoot them if they did not give him money.
• Boaters on the U.S. side of the lake who were approached by a boat containing five armed men on May 16, according to second-hand reports that reached law enforcement officers. The DPS said it couldn’t confirm if the boaters had been robbed.
Tuesday’s notice urged fishermen to stay as far as possible from any of the Argos-type boats typically used as fishing vessels by Mexican fishermen, which DPS said had large prows, small outboard motors without cowling and no identification numbers on the hulls.
Boaters on the lake also were urged to stay within U.S. waters and file a float plan with family members.
Falcon Lake is an approximately 60-mile-long reservoir on the Rio Grande fronting Starr and Zapata counties on the Texas side and shared between the United States and Mexico. It was formed by a dam in 1953 to conserve water for agriculture and control downstream flooding.

RI lawmaker files immigration bill that follows Arizona’s law

Karen Ziner
PROVIDENCE, R.I. —
State Rep. Peter Palumbo, D-District 16, Cranston, has filed a bill that largely copies a controversial Arizona law considered the toughest immigration legislation in the country.
Palumbo’s bill, like the Arizona law, makes failure to carry alien registration cards a state crime, and requires police to question people “where reasonable suspicion exists” that the person is unlawfully in the United States.

The bill, H 8142, filed Tuesday, also targets people who hire illegal immigrants, or who knowingly transport them.
Much of Palumbo’s bill is taken verbatim from the Arizona bill, SB 1070, which was signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer last month, over President Obama’s objections.
Terry Gorman, head of Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement (RIILE), said he and his organization plan to support Palumbo’s effort.
“It’s incredibly important that we have laws like the Arizona law if we’re ever going to do anything about illegal immigration,” Gorman said. “The situation is never going to be resolved unless measures are taken.”

But remember Babs, it's not about hispanics. It's immigration not anti-hispanic. Although by your posts you probably won't hide behind that will you? Not you. You'll put your racism out there for all to see with a kind of Sean Hannity gusto even if it is on an anonymous message board. Bravo, man! Well played!:happy2:

Do you remember how this all began. Back in post #442 I was making fun of Phil Jackson's "they just copied the federal law" logic. I understand that. I get it. Really I do. I understan Dilli when she says it's a matter of life and death. And yes the federal government should enforce the law. And therein lies the problem. The federal government for 30 years has ignored the problem for political and financial reasons. It had the law but no will to enforce it and therefore no need to carefully craft it. Arizona on the other hand has all the desire in the world, but not the legal jurisdiction. So when Arizona enforces the adopted federal standards, infringement upon US citizens rights are going to happen because it was a law that by legal necessity wasn't going to be enforced with any real voracity. Arizona supplies that voracity with nothing less than vigilante enthusiasm. It is understandable, but that does not mean it is legal or acceptable. It means the administration and congress MUST revamp it's policies to an enforceable and serious set of standards with security being at the top of the list of requirements. That can mean all kinds of actions. Repealing posse comitadas is one very real scenario. Personally I'd like to see the US and Mexico work together. Maybe since the US doesn't want oil refineries in the US we could help Mexico build them and boost their economy and our own. Little things, but they all tie together in the end.

As far as I have read, there has been NO action been taken to this point, The law has not even become affective yet. Your claims of vigilante enthusiasm is baseless. I really doubt any vigilante's will be involved in enforcing the new law, Az has plenty of police.
The current Fed law ( the one that AZ copied) would go a long way to helping but that would require our President to force already existing agencies to do their jobs. We know that isn't going to happen until WE the people demand it in mass. I'm not sure more laws would be needed. just enforce the ones we already have.

On first thought, co-operation with Mexico seems like a really good idea. However, Mexico wants their people to come here, work and send American dollars home. There has been many attempts in the last thirty years to co-operate with Mexico, so far they have only wanted us to ply them with monetary aide with nothing in return but more Mexicans crossing the boarder illegally.

Building refineries in Mexico ? That's just what we need, another foreign country to be dependent on for our fuel. No thanks. Now, if Mexico built a refinery and we bought fuel from them, that's one thing. Using our tax dollars to build it and then buying fuel is something else altogether unacceptable.

Sorry, not racist. Nationalist, yes...racist nope.
There are many Americans that are of Mexican decent, if these people are discriminated against for the reason of that ancestry then that is racism. Discrimination against illegals from Mexico is not racism. Enforcing immigration laws is not discrimination. Put you race card back in your pocket, you will want it again. and again and again.

Go Rhode Island!!! Az broke the ice. RI has widen the channel. There will be other states that will follow. I would guess that there are many state legislators that are waiting to see where this is going to go. I bet there are a few of them that already have the the bill on paper.

It's about not stopping all that enter thru Mexico; the hispanics , the non-hipanics , and the drugs.
Letting them all into this country has weaken us all.
Our medical staffs now have to deal with outbreaks of illnesses that we had removed from this country decades ago.
Mexico thrives on our dollars being sent back home, it's a large part of their country's income.

Love these two cartoons! Janet "send me back to Naples" also has not read the new law.... I was glad to see her leave our state but sad she got the Homeland Security job. If you are from AZ you knew she would be ineffective in the job and that does not bode well for the USA. However appointing her does make the Mr. Donkey look bad!

US President Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907:

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag…… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.” – Theodore Roosevelt, 1907

You gotta be kidding right? !! After posting some comment about "you white folks"! HA! HA! Who is the racist? Your are the kind of person I would love to debate in person. Do you need me to define the word hypocrite or hypocracy for you?

This reminds me of an earlier post referring to LaRaza as the "tan clan" should be Tan Klan but I digress. I am all to familiar with La Raza. Over the years this group has become more divisive and militant in their cause. Back in the '60's this group was more about equality for Mexican-Americans and now it is more about undermining the authority of those who enforce our borders and immigration law while promoting the cause of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

As far as hypocrisy goes... The President of Mexico rivals your posts...

What upsets me about his visit is that our press did not ask any questions about Mexico's immigration laws. Hypocrites make my stomach sour. Here is a hypocrite preaching to America that he does not like AZ law and it needs to be repealed. His country has the toughest immigration law on the continent!! HOW DARE YOU Mr. President... PREACH TO AZ ABOUT IMMIGRATION!! What he should have said is Mexico NEEDS the $1 BILLION that our nationals send home to the motherland. How many more illegals can we send up here to drain your economy? How many more criminals can I send to you to get them off the war-torn streets of my country? PLEASE! PLEASE! I cannot protect my people from the drug lords and I cannot feed or house them. You have a duty and obligation to become Mexico of the north. Viva Mexico!

and then there is the Donkey in Chief who allows the Mexican President to bully us! Way to go Mr Hee Haw!

First of all, the Utilities Commissioner did not "threaten" to shut off the electricity. That claim is a blown out of proportion lib media writer's slant on what he said. He offered to adjust the contract so their boycott could be 100% AZ free. Not a threat, but an offer.
Also in the article it was said that LA was an owner in the AZ power plant and I don't doubt that, what I do doubt is that their portion is large enough to out vote the setting commissioners. The offer from AZ's UC has almost as much teeth as LA's boycott, both are nothing more than gestures. It seems to me that LA has indeed threatened AZ outright though, I guess that's OK.

But, yes, has no teeth. Mostly because California actually owns those electricity plants in Arizona.

Just a back and forth little tease fight. That's all.

I saw this on the news last night! I don't like the boycotting going either way.... It is the people who suffer from stupid politicians trying to make a statement. But California (politicians) are backing AZ up against the wall and we got to do what we got to do. I have a lot of friends and relatives in CA and I think this boycotting thing is divisive and non-productive. Personally, I don't care if other communities and states boycott AZ because for every 4 who don't come here there are 6 like-minded folks to fill those spots. So bring it on!

How is it that the pres. of mexico is here as our guest and he's criticizing our law ??? He's got a lot of nerve. Has he ever heard of being gracious?

You don't go to somebody's house and say, "I really hate your carpeting!" I didn't notice, did Obama bow to him......???

He needs to go back and take care of stuff in his own country.......:biting:

I just got an email with a link to a video with a different twist in it. It gives another reason why we have to close the borders.

Realistically - nothing is going to change (and it will get worse) until we close the border from California through Texas. I know I will be open to creative ideas on the immigration process to make things work once the border is closed. But the key is to completely close the border to illegal traffic. I would rather the USA spend all our time securing the southern border and sealing it shut after that we can discuss the best approach to gaining a path to citizenship.
