August 21, 2017 - Solar Eclipse Affecting UPS Operations

The totality zone goes from NW of the US down to the SE. If your final destination is in Canada then you aren't in the totality zone.

We are meeting someone in Tellico Plains who is traveling to Canada and is stopping off in Tellico Plains to view it with us. But thanks for your concern in our possible geographic error.

Now I see why @wkmac started this in the Current Events forum! SMH

Not convinced it would have been any better there but at least I'm use to the characters and their non sense.

BTW: My thread didn't attempt to address any effect on UPS operations so I see my OP post from that CE thread as being off topic in this one. Raises the question as to why it was moved?

We'll be heading up to SC somewhere, not sure where, maybe a McDonalds off an exit I guess. My main concern is getting back to Ga without a ton of traffic. Hope you guys have a good time.

The city I work in is going to be the first one in Oregon to witness the eclipse. Supposed to quadruple our numbers steadily over the weekend. Thank god I walk to work. I've no idea how drivers are gonna get anywhere. Heck even on a Friday before holiday weekends, the interstate is already deadlocked and the thoroughfares bumper to bumper.

That's the only thing stopping me from driving 200 miles to view it. Traffic is going to be HORRIBLE, no hotel rooms available, and traffic on the way back will still be HORRIBLE.

You too Jack. Think Roswell can run without us?

"friend" em!

That day is also my wife's 59th b day so what a way to celebrate. Also Google "snakes on the ground" "diamond ring" and Bailey's beads as these are phenomena that occur just before and near the end of totality. Also during totality scan the horizon as the entire 360 degrees looks like one big sun rise in all directions.

I'll be in Seattle. We were going to drive down to Salem but the thought of being trapped on the highway changed our minds. We'll be at Mt. Rainier instead which will probably be a mess too.

Salem will be locked out for sure. I hope anybody planning on going out has a bike, skates, or a skateboard. Apartment complexes will likely barricade entrances and exits and post people at cones. It'll be a great day to get mugged or have your stuff stolen. Honestly I might just go sell bottled water, trailmix, and eclipse glasses. Cops would be too busy to care.

Anyone going there needs to secure all valuables from the vehicle. Don't even leave CD's or food or cigarettes, lighters or change. If you can fit car seats in the trunk, do it. If it means taking everything with you, buy a cheap jansport backpack like everyone has here, or a small reinforced duffle. If it's like any other year, pack cold packs because ice will be 10 bucks a bag, everywhere.

Edit: Don't waste money on recreational things for people over 21. There will be plentyyyy for much cheaper, everywhere, conceal cash if planning on bringing something home. Don't buy liquor here its like 20 to 30 more for a bottle of scotch, and most of the craft beers suck.

It was reported and I did not think it through before I made the move.
I then reinstated your original post.

Two hundred miles ain't nothing. Wake up at 4 am drive to where it is. Drive home. Easy peasy.
