They do piss me off when they read me off their resumes and cite the jobs that paid more than the first three rungs of progression. Of course , many of these jobs were at companies that no longer exist.

I try to be helpful to these guys and answer their questions as honestly as I can but then they start bitching to me as if I am the guy behind the policies that for the most part keep them on the other side of the fence.

Just for clarity, the resume citing usually happens after I answer a question about pay rates and progression raises. "What the hell? , I made 27 dollars an hour hauling corn syrup 3 years ago? Easiest job in the world." Me-um why don't you go back to that job? Him- I can't , they went out of business.

Spend 1 peak in the shop and deal with these guys you will understand. You said 25 years ago you were hired as a peak driver. Times were different then, some of these guys expect to come in here go right to top rate beat the crap out of our equipment and have a hole attitudes. These guys don't get it they need us (mechanics) we don't need them. I had a casual come in the shop last peak total a hole. Guess who broke down the next day and guess who sat a hour longer waiting for me to swap out his truck! I'm not saying its all of them but its a majority of them. Oh and the karma thing not worried about it not enough time left to care about it.....

I agree with you a little. But my experience working with casuals have been mostly positive. And since I have been there I look at them from a different perspective. Now, if I were a mechanic my perspective may have been totally different . walk a mile in your shoes as it were.

BTW, I have the greatest respect for the mechanics at UPS. In over 20 years I only ran into a couple bad apples at the shop. In fact I spent most of my meal time in the shop breakroom as I would rather spend my time with mechanics rather than feeder drivers.....haha.
