Coolant doesn't go low anymore. Headgaskets blow.

Yes. We want it cold. When you have a bad head gasket, the system stays pressurized.

She should smell the burning oil if it was that bad.

Plus in winter its hard to tell that way because of condensation.

If it's full now, drive it a couple days and check again.

Yea, the oil cap will look like brown mayo on the inside.
