Your remote probably only needs the battery contacts cleaned and new batteries. Worth spending a couple of minutes on.

If you use a spray something like acetone would probably be best.You can use whatever you use to clean your kitchen or bathroom. Just spray some on the contacts, wipe off, rinse the case and let it thoroughly dry before putting in new batteries.
