It's hilarious that the Republicans on this board think that having no government mandated min wage is going to magically bring wages and living standards up. But yeah it's ok to have a union demand higher wages and benefits. UPS got that fat contract but union members look the other way when it comes to layoffs and cuts as a result of that fat contract.

That's the mindset of today's MAGA conservative for you. Any legislation that provides benefit and improves the quality of life for a MAGA....that in the mind of a MAGA is good legislation, good for them and therefore good for the nation as a whole. Now any legislation that for one reason or another fails to benefit a MAGA is bad policy and not good for the nation.

Well let me remind you of the conversation and I told you this before I had with my state's AFL-CIO president. I jumped on him about the fact that the union's have a very strong presence in my state's public employee sector but a near non presence in the private sector.

Pressing him for an answer he finally had the come out it admit it.....The reason you don't see them is because today private sector employers have far more numerous and effective countermeasures including legal measures such as lawsuits and injunctions that could cost labor unions a ton of money, money they may not have and given that nationwide only 12 % of all workers are represented by a union it's easy to be why unions today are hesitant.

Remember the California minimum wage law is state legislation only. The legislation that provided protections to you and your union is federal legislation.

So the real question is.....why did this group of workers have to seek the help and protection of the California legislature in order to gain some relief from their impossible to live on wages?

The answer is simple. Your no longer powerful labor unions were nowhere to be seen.... And that is NOT my fault.

So the government gets involved. The restaurants will have to raise prices to cover the additional costs. And/or automate as much as possible to keep prices competitive and low enough to keep customers. Which will cost jobs. You always applaud government intervention but as usual the government makes matters worse. When someone loses their fast-food job, and can't find another because companies are trying to survive these government mandates, do you think that person will be thrilled with the $20hr pay raise?

The volume slump is no better or no worse than it ever is. Covid volume made people think differently for a while Historically this time of year has always been slow and now the companies decades in the making plan to modernize and get rid of very small older facilities is coming together. I’ve already been at one of their modern supposed automated hubs for many years now. Thousands of Teamster jobs just different jobs than there were before.

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the reason they don't stay long is because they can't make a living doing that type of work?
So answer this question; Should they not be able to earn a decent wage during the time they are there? If they did then perhaps they might be able to stay longer.
