The so called "Freedom Caucus" a gang of hard line conservatives continue to demand major cuts to key social programs which many of their conservative supporters survive on including their demand for an across the board 25% cut. I don't think they even realize that let alone care. It would appear that they believe that the only people receiving benefits are lazy evil communist sympathizing liberals who never worked a day in their lives.
I've talked to MAGA's some who are currently receiving benefits who treat those benefits like they are birth rights and every time I brought up the Freedom Caucus's demands their answer was always the same....."Well, I don't think they'd go THAT far. My response...."if they didn't meant it....they why would they make that demand on the floor of Congress?

Remember, poor people don't have money to help pay for campaigns and purchasing seats in Congress and the White House. Therefore groups like the Freedom Caucus consider them expendable in the effort to appease their wealthy donors.
I was sort of enjoying your post and even believing until you made the comment that you “ talked to MAGAs” sorry your story broke down at that point.

That is misinformation that Democrats will probably run on in 2024 to try to scare minorities into coming back to Joe. They don't like him very much though.

"Across the board" means military too, not just social programs. The Freedom Caucus was against Donald Trump's huge increases in military spending.

At what point do you believe the national debt, including servicing that debt, is too much? Our spending now includes supporting millions of people let in unvetted in the last three years. It also includes giving large sums of money to constituencies who give a portion of it back in campaign contributions and votes.

In other words plenty can be done to reduce the amount of spending but we have politicians unwilling to because the money they need to get reelected would dry up. You always put it in terms of "but the poor" but it's about a lot more than that. At what point is the national debt too much?

6 of the 10 most welfare dependent states are southern states. When they secede from the union.....simply cut off their welfare benefits....war's over.
I fully support getting rid of each and every last bit of welfare down to the last drop. That includes every kind of money reallocation. I'm sure you'd be kicking and screaming your head off if that was ever actually on the table though.

Can I conclude that you will not be signing up for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment compensation, oh and BTW did you send your COVID relief check back? Is that what you're telling me? That you will be standing on your political principles however painful they may be? That the ravages of disease, ageing and outdated job skills will never get in the way of your ability to work and earn a living?

Will they stop taking the money out of my check for those things? lol
I can assure you over the lifetime that I’ve been forced to pay those things I could’ve invested them and been at minimum self-sufficient, most likely quite wealthy.

Covid relief check? Don’t know I didn’t get one.

Let's do 10% across the board to start. Learn to live within our means.
10% cut in your monthly benefits? Remember when DeSantis was in Congress and he proposed a flat federal income tax with no standard deduction or dependency exemption so a guy making 20K a year would pay the same percentage tax rate as a guy making 20 million?

Bush had the idea of privatizing Social Security and I told you the 3 reasons why it went nowhere.
