We had a couple of people take leaves of absence when it first started. One ended up leaving the company, the other stayed out long enough to use up their vacation and retire.

We had one call out (exposed to covid, no test) they haven't been back or contacted us in 4 weeks...

I figured as much, but why not cut him/her loose??? If they haven't been heard from in a month they don't want to work and there's not point keeping them on the roster.

in the last 4 years I have only seen one person let go, for being late too much(1-4minutes late) oh well.
