I was kinda disappointed in D3 tbh. I will still check out D4 though.

Diablo 3 for me just seemed too streamlined. It lacked the character development that a lot of rpgs are streamlining(oblivion -> Skyrim, FO3->FO4, Diablo 2->Diablo 3) to appeal to a mainstream audience.
They are cutting out the rpg out of arpgs to focus on the action and I don’t think it’s a necessary thing to do.

I hated not having a skill tree to min max or no attributes and the lack of niche builds. Like in diablo 2 you could use runewords to make all kinds of build, like a whirlwind assassin and such.

Path of Exile is a good example of going too far the other direction, lots of in-depth character min maxing, gear grinding, crafting and niche builds. But hardly any action, just end game deleting bosses and screen clearing mobs instantly.

I hope d4 finds a good middle ground for it, from what I’ve seen on the pre alpha gameplay it looks great but seems to be tilting towards the diablo 3 character building compared to the diablo 2 character building.
