Years of propaganda have made unions the enemy. The same people unions would benefit are often the people that will now fight tooth and nail against them.

Corporate profits and executive compensation packages are at an all time high in many sectors directly off the backs of middle class workers. Forget an eroding middle class, decades of stagnant wages and skyrocketing health costs, any worker that tries to fight back against this trend is labeled lazy or a malcontent or even a socialist.

UPS has enjoyed record profits for a number of years so any argument that the union is “driving another company out of business” as one person suggested here is laughable.
Yellow is trying to shut down buildings and consolidate operations, just like every other carrier is right now. The union is blocking the plan knowing full well it will bankrupt the company. You can blame whoever you want but the union shares some of it. They’d rather everyone lose their jobs than only some. Unions drive companies out of business all the time.

By and large it's too late now to do anything to save Yellow. IBT had to make concessions in an effort to save Preston but in the end it didn't matter.
If in the highly likely event Yellow files it will first file for Chapter 11 reorganization but I expect that attorney's for the Treasury Department will ask for a refiling under Chapter 7 total liquidation in an effort to recoup as much of the public's money as possible. Even more so if it's granted Class 1 creditor status.

This is something that happens all the time in the industry. Every time it gets to a point where there's too many carriers and not enough freight the industry undergoes a consolidation.

Given that Yellow drivers will be scarfed up quickly by other carriers the concessions Yellow demands may come to the point where Yellow drivers would make more money going to work for somebody else.

Furthermore, if this package of concessions were made how long will it be until Yellow is back demanding even more?

In a related piece of news I learned today that Fat Freddy and Raj the Jackal have put shipping quota limits on the volume of existing accounts. What's even more interesting and this is good news for the brown shirts, reports coming out saying that Fats and Raj have told shippers who do not have FDX accounts that in order for FDX to pick up their junk they first have to sign long term service contracts with FDX.

If true then that should be music to the ears of the IBT.

It’s hard to think of a time when concessions to a company actually worked, or helped the workers, especially one that is on the brink of going out of business because of their poor management. Yellow is just another in the long list of these type of companies.

Yellow is unique in the LTL space being one the few forced to pay union wages. Other carriers with more flexibility in labor costs will survive while Yellow goes bankrupt. Apparently the teamsters see this outcome as a win for labor. Yeah!! 22,000 drivers lose their jobs!

And once again, you have no idea what you’re talking about since they’re really not even the top paying carrier not even close anymore, but having no idea what you’re talking about has never cause you to keep your mouth shut. #80 out of 167.

Wow, sounds like the teamsters did a terrible job negotiating wages for them. So the teamsters are blocking a restructuring of their network to stay in business and got the workers substandard pay. I can’t imagine why union membership continues to decline with results like that.

It comes down to the question of.....why work for nothing....when you can do nothing for nothing?

Now when it's all said and done, when they come out of this UPS drivers will be move closer perhaps much closer to that $50 an hour number plus full benefits.

The challenge for you share cropper multi route contractors will be to find a believable excuse for your convenience store wage and zero benefit pay package sufficient to find enough people willing to take the bait.

Will Fat Freddy move your rates up enough to give you a chance to compete for help? You know the answer.

Reminds me of what Yorkie said to JoJo....."Definitely not a good time to be a Nazi".

Given what's going on at X and the oncoming feces storm (can't use the S word) definitely not a good time to be a FXG contractor because you're getting left behind in the race for job quality and pay to match.

Well, outside of your trolling, and having absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. you can clearly see the Teamsters have bent over backwards to keep this company in business, and they are no longer willing to give up things for a poorly managed company.

Maybe they should have worked harder. Their efforts have clearly been a failure and now everyone will be laid off. Another union victory!

When nobody believes anything corporate says which is what you're hearing here, it's all over for Yellow. When nothing corporate says is trustworthy or believable it's time to pack it in and move on. The message from rank and file is that they're no longer willing to put any more money at risk in the form of wage and benefit concessions with no guarantee the company will be in business a year from now. Plain to see that management credibility is gone.

Similar situation at Ground where contractors are under continuous pressure to put more money much of it borrowed at risk with no contractual support or protection and at a time of diminishing contractor returns.

The top management gave their selves million dollar bonuses just a few months ago and now they’re coming with their hat in hand asking for these people to give back again.

Trucking companies come and go it is a very competitive market, the real question is how does UPS with a high wage scale stay in business must be good management. FedEx is going to push the low wage contractors model , which means low compensation for contractors who have no other options but to take what FedEx gives, bad situation gets worse if IBT gets a nice fat contract.

The low wage contractors will be Fedex’s failure. It amazes me supposedly intelligent higher up can’t see it

What are you complaining about? That would increase the pool of workers for you.

Knowing that in the world of today the IBT cannot fight a war on two fronts perhaps your national organization will try to settle up with UPS moving things along on at an accelerated pace so it can figure out what to do about Yellow.

If you recall by the time union represented Consolidated Freightways went below the Mendoza Line the company already had it's nonunion subsidiary Con-Way up, up and running and ready to take over and when CF closed up the industry barely noticed.

Today if you've got labor problems..... bypass it.... Start your own nonunion subsidiary or buy one that is.

What is of upmost importance of the IBT and labor unions in general is to preserve it's ability to continue to set the market for the labor in their sectors of the economy.

In order to protect the rich GOP's publicly stated policy initiative is to raise the Medicare retirement age to age 70 and has long campaigned to raise the SS full retirement age to 70 including raising early retirement from 62 to several years higher making the working class work longer, harder and later in life but never asking the rich to do anything but to drive and even larger income gap between the classes .

This morning it's my understanding that talks between UPS and IBT have broken off. It is the usual posturing you see during such events. If it comes down to push vs shove I hope the IBT membership is fully prepared not just verbally prepared but FULLY prepared both economically and psychologically for a long and bloody fight.

Now if the public comes out on the side of IBT then afterward the IBT must be willing to go outside it's market sector and materially participate in efforts to organize workers as part of an overall campaign to stop the erosion of earning power of your everyday blue collar worker.

By and large it's too late now to do anything to save Yellow. IBT had to make concessions in an effort to save Preston but in the end it didn't matter.

Then why do you still read it? It has to be of considerable interest to you or you wouldn't continue to read and make your best effort albeit disappointing in content to respond.
Who said I read it?

Two words and I recognize it as something you’ve said a hundred times already.
