It’s the bottles. Green glass allows more light penetration than brown bottles and that can make the beer skunky.
The acceptance of this knowledge and the technology that helped bring small compact and even mobile canning lines is what helped explode the craft beer movement. The investment and upkeep/maintenance of a bottling line is very pricey, let alone the fact a canning line runs 10x faster and is ultimately doing a better job purging any oxygen out before sealing.
Cans are the way to go for Vt craft beers. Glass bottles for the California style. Colorado brews and Wyoming beer is best served on tap.

Is it the bottle or the hops? Certain beers always have that skunk brew smell, some more than others, Moosehead, Heineken, Rolling Rock for sure.
Heineken from the brewery tastes nothing like the swill they sell here after its riden on a boat for who knows how long then warehoused
for however long
