0. But these folks would be an asset if we had the courage and will to do something productive. Get them set up in a shrinking major city. We have 8 million jobs available. Get 'em to work. Lord knows they know what hard work and risk-taking is. Within 2-3 generations many will be successful small business owners like a lot of immigrants.
Not saying it's an easy or overnight fix but this has been our experience as a nation of immigrants.
Again, I agree with you in theory. But the Irish, the Italians, etc. all took their turn at the bottom of the totem pole and earned their place. I don't see a reason to change. I don't think we should roll out the red carpet for the latest wave just bc it's the popular thing on Twitter.
When my great-grandfather came to this country he worked in some factory in Philly for $2 a day. Idk what kind of govt programs they had back in those days but probably much less than today. Instead they formed Italian communities in Italian neighborhoods and took care of each other. They were still the FNGs for decades. I'm okay with this. I don't agree with the people on the other end of the spectrum who get triggered every time they see a new mosque go up either. Most of the Muslims I've known IRL were very nice people. However they were very secular and Westernized compared to their countries of origin.
These refugees just haven't earned my trust yet, and yes I am ENTITLED to that opinion. Maybe the guys who deployed there and worked with them personally can vouch for them. Mostly we hear that they're a bunch of soup sandwiches who can't even do jumping jacks but the media is biased.
