Gm News;
Layoffs of a dozen here and there.
Seems like they are finally starting to do a completely re-organization of their corp. structure, something that a proper bankruptcy would have accomplished years ago.
Oh, by the way , they are handing out $12M in bonuses to their hourly workers, too.

Did Obama Administration cover up Volt fire hazard?

By Rick Manning — The Chevy Volt has become the car that many people love to hate. Now, many more are asking if federal regulators treated the Volt differently than any other vehicle.
A symbol of the government bailout and continued ownership of General Motors, the Volt has been hailed as the vehicle of the future by the Obama Administration’s green energy pushers.
Now, the Volt is in danger of taking down the entire electric car industry as concerns about fire hazards involving the vehicles battery cooling system are creating a backlash across the nation.
The timing of the fire hazard is particularly alarming as it comes close on the heels of the Administration’s announcement that they are increasing fuel efficiency standards up to an average of 54.5 miles per gallon of gasoline by 2025. The standards were set with the expectation that consumers would increasingly choose electric vehicles as the technology became more accepted.

Sunday, December 18, 2011 @ 10:30 am | Audi Chief Calls Chevy Volt “A Car For Idiots”

How dare he slander the official car of the Obama administration!
Via Marfdrat:
Audi’s American division president, however, doesn’t mince words when it comes to people buyers (no pun intended).
Bring on the war of words. In a frank conversation with MSN writer Lawrence Ulrich, Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen has said that the Chevy Volt will fail and that anybody who buys the car is an idiot. Not only that, de Nysschen has lumped proponents of any type of electric car into a category of “intellectual elite who want to show what enlightened souls they are.”

On BBC America there is a show called Top Gear.
It's a show about fast cars and "presenters" who do goofy stuff.
They have shown what models our Big 3 will not sell here , but are the tops in mileage over there.

Report: Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up To $250K Per Vehicle….
What a monumental waste of taxpayer dollars.
(MCC) — Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
Hohman looked at total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Hohman included in his analysis 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

GM’s Chevrolet Volt Will Miss 2011 Sales Target

"Chevrolet Volt will miss its sales target of 10,000 cars this year, the company said. While dealers sold 1,139
of the plug-in hybrids last month, the company is more than 3,800 shy of its 2011 goal. “It appears we will
deliver the 10,000th Volt in early 2012,” GM Vice President of U.S. Sales Don Johnson said today in a
conference call with reporters. “We’re not at all disappointed. You have to continue to build awareness.”

My math may be wrong. We (taxpayers) still own 26% of GM, and at today's stock price taxpayers
are at least $16,500,000,000 in the hole.

I think your in the ballpark. I know that just to break even the govt needed to sell all the stock if it hit 53bucks a share. They already sold a crapload at much less...

Bottom Line - So far, battery cars coming up short

If the White House hopes to meet its ambitious goal of putting 1.5 million battery cars on the road by mid-decade it better hope that 2011 wasn’t a good indication of what Americans think of electric vehicles.
Add them all up, hybrids, plug-ins and pure battery-electric vehicles, or BEVs, and they accounted for little more than 2% of the U.S. automotive market last year.
Remove conventional gas-electric models, such as the Toyota Prius and Ford Fusion Hybrid, from the equation and more advanced battery vehicles generated barely 20,000 sales.

Woman takes unique road to sue Honda over mileage

TORRANCE, Calif. — A woman who expected her 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid to be her dream car wants Honda to pay for not delivering the high mileage it promised.
Heather Peters says her car never came close to getting the promised 50 miles per gallon, and as its battery deteriorated, it was getting only 30 mpg.
She wants Honda to pay for her trouble and the extra money she spent on gas.
"I was shocked," she said. "I wrote to Honda and said I would take $7,500, which was then the limit on small claims in California.
It is going up to $10,000 in 2012."

She said she also offered to trade her hybrid for a comparable car with a manual transmission, the only thing she trusted at that point.
"I wrote the letter and I said, ’If you don’t respond, I will file a suit in small claims court.’
I gave them my phone number," she said. "They never called, and I filed the suit."

She said she also sent emails to top executives at Honda with no response.
A trial is set for Tuesday afternoon in Torrance, where American Honda Motor Co. has its West Coast headquarters.

I would also like to point out that I finally got a chance to sit inside a chevy volt at my local auto show. I was really surprised how cheap the interior was, and the layout was just odd. For a $40k car I expected better, and considering I sat in plenty of $40k cars at this show I know there is better.

Obama is the enemy of jobs and success in America........................

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 @ 6:45 pm | Thanks For The Bailout: Government Motors To Move Chevy Volt Production To China…
Piss off, American taxpayer.
(USA Today) — General Motors agreed in Shanghai today to develop an electric vehicle platform with longtime Chinese partner SAIC. It effectively moves GM’s future electric vehicle development to China. Unclear is whether this would also lead to assembly of future EVs for the U.S. market in China.

The deal came as the Chinese government is pushing foreign automakers to give Chinese companies EV technology they lack, according to an Associated Press report. U.S. lawmakers have complained that China is “shaking down” GM to get Volt secrets. Electric vehicle development in the U.S. has been developed with extensive U.S. taxpayer funding.

Details of the plan were not provided, and GM has denied it will involve handing over intellectual property underlying the Volt.

GM Vice Chairman Steve Girsky, in a conference call from Shanghai, said that neither SAIC nor the Chinese government have demanded Volt technology. Any future EV would, of course, draw on GM’s Volt experience and technology. Under the deal, SAIC and GM will equally share the cost of developing a new all-electric vehicle, Girsky said.

GM plans to start exporting Michigan-made Volts to China by year’s end, but isn’t likely to sell many. The Chinese government is pushing electrics with a subsidy that amounts to about $19,000 per car — but only if the car is made in China. No imports allowed. There also are tariffs on cars imported to China, which lawmakers argue are unfair and may violateworld trade rules.

Girsky hinted that the Volt could eventually be built in China. “If we localize, eventually it won’t have a tariff and it will get the subsidy. We have made no decision on if, when or where we build Volt in the future.”
