How long did it take you drivers to become drivers?

1.5 years to get to full time. took road test to be full time on my 21st birthday. could have been FT sooner if not for age and a bunch of guys got in ahead of me off the street or with only a few months PT.

There are countless variables that go into moving a PT employee to driver.

- amount of drivers retiring in upcoming years
- the economy
- how much eCommerce grows and percent UPS delivers
- how many PT's that are waiting to go driving and ahead of you

If someone is telling you a certain amount of years, take it with a grain of salt. No one can give you a truly accurate estimate with the mentioned variables many of which are economy based.

I was told 2 years when I started in '07. Then a minor economic hiccup occurred in '08. 5.5 years later I finally get the call.

We have one Art 22.3 and four FT. Also one PT but most of the time I am out covering for drivers.

Every building is different. Right now you can start at HARPA and be driving the next month. We are in need of drivers badly going into peak. But in other buildings you could wait 10 years before a chance to drive comes up.

I was hired during a period of growth (1989) and a much lower inside/outside ratio (3:1).
