Have encountered a few black bears while backpacking the back country out here. Usually they're in just as much of a hurry to get away from us but we always try to make some noise on trail as to not surprise them & I do carry bear spray. Just not a good idea to hang around if a cub is in the area. To be honest I'm more concerned about the Mountain Lions out here. Have not seen one yet but hear of other hikers being stalked by them.
