If You Can Make it There....

If you’ve ever seen more than a tourist hotel or resort you’d know why a few months or weeks here and there are not descriptive of what it’s like to live in some of these :censored2:holes.
Not to mention the huge target Americans have on their backs.
The locals know Americans are rich, by their standards.
I’ve seen the worst. Some insist on learning the hard way.
I don’t really have much perspective outside of other fully developed countries.

Personally wouldn’t be my cup of tea. If I don’t make enough money to live here, I’ll have to figure out how to make more money.

Visiting is one thing; living there is another.
Even in Europe, the closest to our way of life, the contrasts and lack of what we have here wear on you.
Your last sentence is exactly why you won’t end up with $20k a year after 59 years of building wealth.

LOL.
No need to feel so inferior.

You like to spin things like your dumb comment: “you’ve got them all figured out”.
I said” I’ve met a lot … and they’re all weird except businessmen”.
Typical of you.
When you leaving?
You and I and everyone familiar with you knows that you are casting aspersions on the whole idea. If you can afford the States more power to you.

You took a lot of flak for this thread, but I don’t disagree with your premise that it’s a valid option.

But why are all the people in these lower cost of living countries trying to come here then?

No such thing as a free lunch, and my guess is what you gain with cost of living, you probably have to give up in quality of life.
Get outside the developed world and economies drop quite a bit. Not saying living there is necessarily better than the States. It is if you have enough independent income as opposed to what that income gets you in the States. What a lot of people don't realize is that most of these countries have a wealthy class who like nice things too. You can live in those enclaves for less than a similar lifestyle in the States or Europe. There are places also that have a fulltime spring like climate. There are upscale neighborhoods in a number of Mexican cities for example. Argentina has a great lifestyle if you are by their standards wealthy. Doesn't take much to live a nice lifestyle there. People come here because there are jobs. Jobs that pay in U.S. dollars which go a lot further back home. But in spite of what it seems like most people remain in their home countries.

I'm not telling anyone who is young to go to these countries and look for work. They'd be very disappointed. But if you have a pension and/or Social Security there's at least 15-20 developing countries where you'll do better than you ever would in the States. And most of them have very good internet now. The First World developed it and they have bought into it.

I've stayed in hostels. Airbnb's. No resorts. What were you, Navy? Marines? Going into dive bars in ports, chasing hookers, would probably skew anyone's view. I doubt you ever spent much time off a military base learning the local culture. Or you were stationed in a Muslim war zone. Nothing like what I experienced.

Half of the country are paycheck to paycheck wage slaves. No pension, no big 401k. Social Security is their only option.

Sounds foolish to me there are cheap places to live right here in the good ol USA if that’s what you’re looking for
OK, my income will be $24k when I turn 67. A lot of people will have less than that. Please tell me where I can pay rent, pay utilities, go out to eat, buy clothes as needed, keep a car, keep a dog, travel once in awhile, buy Christmas gifts? And still put $800 or more a month into savings?

Good planning! 🤣
So you think that's a lie?

And mea culpa. They've bumped their monthly rate up to $250 a month. $200 two months ago. The best park in the area is $375 a month(or at least was). They offer all that this one does plus cable tv, indoor pool, super nice laundry room. And they're less than a mile from Wal-Mart so could do without a car with them.

No wonder you're broke and have to rely on SS for 24K pre-tax....
The "good planning" comment is directed at how you arrived at almost nothing at age 67...
And you give advice and insight to people here????

Already proved you wrong on the RV park. News for you: I started this thread so I'll give my opinions. You on the other hand don't start threads, you just take shots.

I'm not trying to convince anyone who has plenty of income. I'm just showing anyone in a similar situation there are options. Fellow like you is totally jingoistic and xenophobic. Can't stand the thought of anyone finding other options outside the U.S. Sad.
