I think that approach can work really well locally in reliably Democratic areas, but not necessarily nationally. A lot of my southern neighbors don’t like Trump but see some of the hard left stuff regarding gender, political correctness/sensitivity, immigration, etc and just can’t vote for the party that would be open to pushing their ideas.

I sure hope not. I'm a staunch and non-religious supporter of science, environmental stewardship and public education. Fortunate to be in more of an "evolved" area.

I think Obama was different in that his supporters at least felt good about voting for him and who he was as a person. Hillary was just the alternative to Trump.
