Irregs and Oversize

I'm Naively thinking that it IS cheaper to go LTL and the only reason UPS is doing this is to lessen the amount of oversize we get.

You are not being naive at all.

When I bought my 42” flat screen TV with my sales lead money it was brought up from Albany on a straight truck.

Last month our Lake Placid driver had two of the biggest flat screens any of us had ever seen. They were at least 70”, if not closer to 80”. They were huge and he was already nearly bricked out. They sent them up with an air driver.

Anyone that thinks this price surcharge will change the amount of irreggs on your truck, you’re not thinking clearly. This will only add more to UPS bottom line. Increasing the dividend, and bonus for our fearless leaders. Don’t be naive.

There has got to be a price point where LTL or even renting a pick up truck and hauling it home yourself makes more sense.

To me, I would never pay $100 on top of the shipping charges. I would do Ship to Store and haul it home from there.
The stickler with LTL is the lift gate for residential. That's an extra surcharge. Be willing to bet that is what makes it cheaper to ship with us even with the oversized surcharge.

I picked up an irreg last week that was too long to stand up in a trailer. The trailer was full, it was a box with a roll of carpet in it.

Bad Moon Risen'
Delivered a few overnight letters on Monday morning to a residence in an area that I do not normally have. There were two delivery notices on the door for a pick up for Amazon. Laying on the front porch was a mattress that I would guess was at least queen size and was soaked because it had rained over the weekend. As I was walking back to my package car, lady comes outside and asks why I was not taking the mattress. Told her that I was only delivering the air and that another driver would have the call tag and would be around later that day. Told her that we could not pick up the mattress unless it was stuffed back into the box that it was delivered in. Both of us knew that wasn't going to happen as it must have expanded to 10 times the size of the box. Politely told her to call Amazon to find an alternative way to return it.

That's what I don't understand about ordering a bed or a rug on-line. How do you know how it's
going to feel or look? One of our drivers got hurt with one of those rugs. On his return "safety" OJS, manager told him he could stand the rug up on a hand truck. LOL

Some customers will certainly be able to absorb the extra cost, but it will make shipping through small package prohibitive for a lot of people. The number of overweight/size will have to drop. I was wondering how long it was going to take UPS to figure this out. It's simple and right, so, based on all their other decisions, it's shocking that they ever did.

A rich housewife with a newborn baby would rather just pay $100. Then she will watch you man up and carry it up the steps to the front door
She can watch her husband "man up" and wrestle it up the steps. I'm leaving it at the bottom of the stairs or at the garage. How am I supposed to use 3 points of contact while carrying an over-sized box?

Good!!! Maybe people can go to the store to buy their :censored2:ing furniture instead of ordering it online.... realizing the color "mocha" wood is a bit off from their other :censored2: furniture and making me come back and pick it up....

:censored2: your furniture!!!! Real talk!!!

Considering most of the :censored2: furniture people buy is sub 200 bucks, i think adding a $100 surcharge will make take it from "good deal" to "rent a pick up truck from uhaul and go to ikea your self"

Please read my " mech lift" thread and you will see why I used the term " man up" my union brother

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
Heard on the radio that UPS is raising the surcharge on these packages to $80-$100 to entice shippers to go elsewhere. I imagine preferably UPS freight. Hard to imagine them doing this unless they have finally seen the light.
They upped it big time last year. There was a noticeable difference for about 2 months

Just like ciggerates , people don't care what it costs, theyd rather pay the $100 than leave there house and lift it themselves. Oh yeah and they will be waiting by the door all day for you so you can wrestle it inside too.
I won't be wrestling anything inside.
