Your teachers go on unemployment in the summer, and are not on yearly salary ?
That outta change !

So, come xmas and Spring break, we'll see another rise in unemployment ?
Must be nice to have a full time job, and still collect unemployment, when on vacation break.

Don't you read before you post nonsense ?

New U.S. claims for unemployment benefits rose less than expected last week, according to a government report on Thursday that hinted at an improvement in labor market conditions.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 410,000 !

Check the stock market this morning, odd it's up, eh ?
That's like saying."Oh, I only have a few smallpox!" That 400,000 number needs to be around 250,000 to mean anything significant is happening to the good side..

This goes to show how little you know about teachers and their contracts. They have contracts for the school year (however many days that is), they have the option of receiving incremented checks either during the time actually spent in school or to have it incremented in 12 payments. They are not paid for the months between school years. Yes some of those that choose to have their checks only when school is in session do file unemployment during the summer months. Some get part time jobs during the summer. Christmas and spring break essentially paid time.

You're welcome.

Why does he credit the Dems., when it was McConnell(R) that was calling for a vote on the pres.'s job bill a few days ago and Harry said NO ??
"President Obama today will push Congress to act on his jobs plan and credit Senate Democrats for taking action on jobs, according to a senior administration official.
The president is also likely to endorse a "millionaire's surtax" -- a rate increase on those earning $1 million or more.
Obama will speak live at 11 a.m. ET. Join CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Suzanne Malveaux and Gloria Borger on CNN TV and CNN.com/Live for full coverage."

Anyways, I didn't know school started that late (in October) in the US.
These are weekly job numbers. Yeah, under those circumstances, being on leave sine June until October, I agree they ought to be on unemployment.

The schools in most of the country start in September (anywhere from the first week and the last week) , the numbers you are talking about just came out so they can't reflect Octobers unemployment numbers.

BTW, in 25 years of teaching, my Ex never filed for unemployment. She did work PT during the softball seasons for extra $$.

Obama Cites Sob Story Of Teacher Who Needs Work In Speech To Pass Jobs Bill . . . One Problem, Man Has a Job Teaching In Boston School System…

You lie!
BOSTON (CBS) — President Obama used the story of a Boston teacher to push his jobs bill Thursday, even though the teacher has a job.
At the beginning of his White House news conference, President Obama told a story of how he recently met Robert Baroz of Wellesley, an English teacher in the city.

“I had a chance to meet a young man named Robert Baroz. He’s an English teacher in Boston who came to the White House a few weeks ago. He’s got two decades of teaching experience. He’s got a Master’s Degree. He’s got an outstanding track record of helping his students make huge gains in reading and writing,” the president said.

“In the last few years, he’s received three pink slips because of budget cuts. Why wouldn’t we want to pass a bill that puts somebody like Robert back in the classroom teaching our kids?”

But, Baroz is working in the Boston Public Schools this year as a middle school English teacher.
On the D.O.E.’s web site, he writes that he’s also employed part-time as an English instructor at Mass Bay Community College.

Heard about this guy on a local radio station; he claims to have gotten 3 pink slips , yet was quickly re-hired by another school system each time.
In Mass. it is common practice to issue every teacher a pink slip at the end of the school year; thus giving the school administrator and the effected teachers time to consider other choices.

Tale of Hub teacher’s job struggle stretches truth
Uh-O! Prez fudges facts
“I had a chance to meet a young man named Robert Baroz,” the president said at a midday news conference. “He’s got two decades of teaching experience. He’s got a master’s degree. He’s got an outstanding track record of helping his students make huge gains in reading and writing. In the last few years, he’s received three pink slips because of budget cuts. Why wouldn’t we want to pass a bill that puts somebody like Robert back in the classroom teaching our kids?”
Two problems: Obama never met Baroz. And Baroz remains happily employed.

It is technically true that Obama had a chance to meet Baroz. But the closest Baroz actually got to Obama was the front row of a Rose Garden press conference on the jobs bill in September, with a handful of other teachers. He later met with White House aides and Obama’s education chief, but never met the president.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In President Barack Obama’s sales pitch for his jobs bill, there are two versions of reality: The one in his speeches and the one actually unfolding in Washington.

When Obama accuses Republicans of standing in the way of his nearly $450 billion plan, he ignores the fact that his own party has struggled to unite behind the proposal.

When the president says Republicans haven’t explained what they oppose in the plan, he skips over the fact that Republicans who control the House actually have done that in detail.

And when he calls on Congress to “pass this bill now,” he slides past the point that Democrats control the Senate and were never prepared to move immediately, given other priorities. Senators are expected to vote Tuesday on opening debate on the bill, a month after the president unveiled it with a call for its immediate passage.

To be sure, Obama is not the only one engaging in rhetorical excesses. But he is the president, and as such, his constant remarks on the bill draw the most attention and scrutiny.

The disconnect between what Obama says about his jobs bill and what stands as the political reality flow from his broader aim: to rally the public behind his cause and get Congress to act, or, if not, to pin blame on Republicans.

It’s Official: Dem Controlled Senate Votes Down Obama’s Jobs Bill…
Does this mean we won’t have to listen to Obama shriek “pass the bill!” over and over again?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans have voted to kill the White House jobs bill despite weeks of campaign-style barnstorming by President Barack Obama across the country.

Forty-six Republicans joined with two Democrats to filibuster the $447 billion plan.

That vote was not final. The roll call was kept open Tuesday night to allow Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H. to vote. But it would have taken 60 votes in the 100-member Senate to keep the legislation alive.

The plan would have included Social Security payroll tax cuts for workers and businesses and other tax relief totaling about $270 billion. There also was to be $175 billion in new spending on roads, school repairs and other infrastructure — as well as jobless aid and help to local governments to avoid layoffs of teachers, firefighters and police officers.

Despite President Barack Obama’s exhortations, the Senate prepared to swiftly kill his jobs package Tuesday and the White House and congressional leaders were already moving on to other ways to cut the nation’s painfully high unemployment without raising taxes.

Obama’s $447 billion jobs bill didn’t figure to get a single GOP vote, even after his weeks-long campaign-style effort to drum up support for a measure he said would reduce the jobless rate from its current 9.1 percent.

Moreluck conveniently left out the part where Obama's plan is to try to pass this legislation one piece at a time.
Why didn't he start out with the piece mill legislation from the beginning? He already knew it wasn't going to pass in the current form. I think it was just another campaign tactic and he knew there are parts of the bill that would kill it in the senate. The parts of the proposal the right will support but they aren't the parts that 0bama wants.

He was clearly in campaign mode when he went on national TV and presented his "there is no chance in hell this will pass" jobs bill and urged Congress to "pass this bill now". There are portions of the bill that make sense and which should make it through Congress.
