Killing a route as a cover driver

I've been a FT swing driver for 5 months now. I work in a bonus center. At first I always went for bonus but I noticed almost every time I was tearing it up, gonna get done early like 3-4pm, that I would get a call from dispatch or a msg on diad to go do out of area pickups for other drivers pretty much killing all my bonus time. So now I just aim to run scratch everyday and I have not had to do any extra added BS. They have stat print outs every morning we can check and noticed that another new swing driver will run 1.5-2 hours bonus. This guy has literally told me he will buckle the seat belt behind him and not wear it. I checked his telematics stats and he'll have a absurd amount of bulk head door events, record in travel, high backs. I know he misdelivers a bunch of :censored2: too because I've had to clean up after him on some routes. Another new driver fresh outta Integrad last christmas was running 2-3 hours bonus doing all res stops no air no pickups and had a tier 3 after a month. I want to get my job done and go home ASAP everyday but I don't think it's worth the risk taking shortcuts that can lead to termination.

He's gonna get fired. Management can tell that he's buckling the seat belt behind him....

My best advise to all you newbie drivers is to not buy into ANYTHING Upstate is selling otherwise you will end up an old washed up delivery driver who has absolutely NO friends at home or work other than a friggin cat. I bet even his best buddy (his center manager) even laughs at him behind his back.

I'm a cover driver. The guy who's route I'm covering normally goes out with 90-100 stops (100 is a heavy day for him) on a very rural area. I'm going out with around 120+ (140 was the most) and coming in WELL before he does. Like, several hours before him. I dont even feel like I'm working all that fast. Is there anything I should be looking out for? I really dont think I could move any slower than I am now. Is this how the you make enemies with your union "brothers"?

This job is a marathon, not the 40 yard dash. Remember that if you ever get seniority and your own route eventually.

Following the methods and all. I was observed a few times. Once by the building manager and he said I was doing a great job. Taking my lunch between pickups. I come in early to go through my truck which I feel really helps out with my pace. Other cover drivers were even saying that they'd be out long after I finished.
Don't come in early and go through your truck that's the preloaders job. I don't understand why drivers do this. Verify your air and get your rs3 tags

Some cover drivers DON'T take care of customers. They have the attitude of they don't see these customers every day so don't care about screwing them over. I knew some drivers who had a lot of seniority but didn't want their own route because that would mean they would have to start taking care of customers.
I would rather do cut routes so I can avoid metro pickups!

Your last stop of the day or night is your house! Safely and if it's 2200 just think about that check. I've been cover for 2 years after my first couple of months I learned real fast if you bonus just like everyone says you will get more work. Also I've learned make sure you're over allowed on you S&V ride Safety and Orion pad your wallet

This sounds crazy. Something really strange is going on. What miles are you doing as compared to the regular driver.

I would say, do your job, take your break, and don't worry about anything else.

As a loader the easiest package car I have is run by an older guy that is approaching retirement. Normally it's half full and its a small truck. Needless to say it's my favorite to load. One morning it got completely blown out. The thing was crammed full, I was wondering what was going on. Turns out a cover driver was taking it that morning. Seems like management knows who they can pile it on.

I always get a kick out of senior drivers telling swing drivers to not work off the clock. I'm on a new route, have 13 nda's in a crappy load and I'm not supposed to go in my truck early lol. Get real.

Oh trust me. Things have changed since when I first started. Im slowing way the hell down. I was burning routes cause I didn't wanna be out on a route I wasn't too familiar with when it was dark out. Now i just think of that nice new car when im out delivering.

That's not true. TRUST ME, I used to do it all the time :D
Which part is not true, getting fired or telematics being able to tell about the seatbelt?

Because both are true. While you can't be fired for not wearing your seatbelt from telematics alone, they know you are doing it and if they follow you and observe it, good luck.

Telematics cannot tell that you are not wearing your seatbelt. It can only tell that it is latched while the truck is moving.

But it can also tell that it is latched when the truck is not moving. It can also tell that it was latched for the past 3 or 4 hours, or however long you kept it latched.

Your sup just never did anything about it. But they can.

Follow you. Observe you. Termination for dishonesty.
