There were 83,000 murders during the last six years

El Diario. 8-4-2012. Despite the fact that for months there has been talk of 60,000 homicides during the current federal administration, the truth is that just from the day the Felipe Calderon Hinojosa took office, until December 31, 2011, there were 83,541 murders reported, according to exhaustive research carried out by El Diario.

And Mexico has much more restrictive weapons laws that the USA .

Well, I'm getting overwelmed with e-mails from people that are more than willing to work with me at the Caribbean fest this weekend coming up.
I got 2 as spares, already. Incase we just get too darn busy, or someone doesn't show up.

I'm holding a meeting later today or tomorrow to talk out things with my new helpers.
It's going to be sort of like Hell's Kitchen. Busy, busy, busy and we all must work in symphoney with great commincation skills.
My goal is basically to put out the food as soon as the customers receive their cash back from the til and their drink.

Food should roll out every 10-15 seconds, hopefully.
One does the cash and drinks, the other preps the buns with toppings, 1 cooks the dogs, and one the chicken.

At my other job yesterday, I met 2 Jamican ladies that are attending the fest - I promised them free food, and handed them 1 of my buisness cards so they'll find my booth (with Dizzee's logo on it) .

They told me they'll send all their friends and relatives to my booth :)

Hired 5 people yesterday and held a staff meeting. Going to be a busy weekend and a another very busy day for me today.
Well, atleast everyone knows now, that our goal should be 15 seconds maximum to bring out food & beverages to each customer, and each employee has their own station ( 1 for chicken , 1 for prep on hot dog buns, 1 for operating the hot dog cart, 1 as a cashier, and 1 as the beverage only cashier (serves coffee, pop, and bottled water, and also refills the condiments).
And the 5th person as a helper for everything else - grilling more chicken, cooking more sauerkraut, and being a break-relief person.
(can't expect anyone to work 10 hrs straight with no bathroom or smoke breaks).

All should go well, just worried about one of my helpers (she seemed to be high on meds) !

Oh yeah, had fun at my bakery yesterday , too.
She was disapointed I haven't ordered yet, (just got the deal done with them 2 weeks ago) - so I went in, and ordered 90 dozen.
She thought I meant 9 dozen - told her, no 90 !
And no, before you even think that's all I ordered, it's not. Got another 100 dozen cheese buns orderd from Safeway.

Now the baker and herself is struggeln to make that many (it's just a small bakery). Told her to make as many as possible then, and if she needs to bake on Sunday, that's fine, too - I'll could pick some up on Sunday on my way downtown.
They don't normally operate or work Sundays, but I guess for me they will need to, just to fill my order.

She won't be on the till !
She wants to run the most complicated station - the chicken station. She has 15 years experience as a cook in restaurants, but is currently suffering under a medical condition - I'll give her a chance. If it doesn't work out, I have several more as back-ups.

Just got a phonecall to sell hotdogs out in Evansburg, AB (88 km west of me) to serve 12.000 people !
Had to turn it down, gave him the number of my brother instead - maybe he can do it - I'll be at the Caribbean fest.
Way too short notice for me, and already booked.

Sometimes I do wish I had more than just 1 stand !

As long as she doesn't drink on her lunch.

Remember, I worked in Germany. Even for Mercedes and Bosch and in the dairy.
They had beer vending machines and even draft beer in the cafeterias for just 30 cents/glass.

I'm supplying some cold beers, bottled water, pop, for staff to drink during their shift. I have no problem with that ! (as long as they don't drink too many - 3 or 4 max)

You know, I never forget working until after 11 pm , delivering in my own personal vehicle, because the stops were on my way home (didn't want to make it even later), by going back to the centre.

Regional manager basicaly begged me to take them with me, because they were missed.
I had to do it off the clock and got 3 hrs OT pay off the clock, too. ( so it wouldn't show up that I was 16 hrs on duty that day ).

Anyways, when I did have my lunch break that day, it was at the centre and end of day - and yup - got fired !
No biggie ! I haven't looked back since and never really fought it, either ! I did them enough favours, by skipping breaks, working up to 16 hrs, etc.

Gosh, working off the clock, violating the contract, violating UPS integrity guidelines by falsifying documentation, violating safety regulations, and drinking on the clock. My hero!

You fudge all the health guidelines for the weiner wagon like this? Whatcha do for the health inspector and the guy that handles the permits? :wink2:

Gee, I had another day, I didn't get back to the centre until past 11pm.
They made me travel an hr each way (normally takes 30 minutes, but it was summer and road construction) to go and pick up (exchange), my old truck for a newer one.

That was suppose to be paid off the clock, too - but never got paid for it :(
Sup said he'll make up for it - but never did !

Hi Klein,

That's a really great idea! When I get to the office this afternoon ill check my other vendors lists to make sure there's no overlap. But as someone who is of German descent, I really like what you're offering! Ill let you know this afternoon.

Thanks,

Hi Klein,

Due to the short notice, I already have a community group who has come forward and asked to sell hot dogs and burgers. As you know from last year, I keep the variety high and the duplication of vendors to a minimum to ensure that everyone has a fair shot. However, I have been asked by some of our sponsors and members about Hotdog Father/ Klein's Wienerwagon, and I have been passing along your information for more events this year.

The 2013 Grove Cruise will be August 17, 2013 in Spruce Grove. If that works for you, please keep us in mind for next year.

Thanks Klein!

Caitlin

You know that you are in Canada now - not Germany! What are the rules and regulations for serving food while drinking on duty? What if there is a safety issue because someone is drinking? What about common sense ?!?!?!

As for delivering until 11 and working off the clock, the supervisor or manager should have lost their job PERIOD!. What an unbelievable scenario you painted. ... Common sense gone wild!

This reminds me of a situation I had, an employee ended up being buried in a feeder and couldn't get out. He got wedged. When he finally was pulled to safety. He told me his supervisor told him to get in there and fix it. I pointed to the top of a feeder and told him if the supervisor asked you to jump off the roof of that trailer would you do it. He told me yes (without hesitation) because he can't disobey his boss.

Needless to say - I had quite a few "lack of common sense" issues with this employee finally leading to his discharge because of his lack of common sense and more importantly jeopardizing his safety and the safety of other employees.
