Local 804 Drivers Walked Out

Hoffa/Hall deserve to be slammed!! They have been in office since 1998!! What can they show for it?? Name me anything they can brag about?? NOTHING!!! Weak, sell out contracts?? Being in UPS' pockets??
Please, you boot lickers cannot stand it when real leaders like Sylvester or Zuckerman push back against Hoffa!!

Lets start with the 40,000 jobs they saved at YRC. Oh but you'll probably say that doesn't matter. A real leader fights for all the members not just some. Why isn't Zuckerman fighting for all the UPS members in his local? You should know all the facts before you make ridiculous statements.

On what charge: Making UPS abide by our contract and defending his members too much?? He did what every BA that deals with this company should do...action behind his words!!

The best thing that happened on this thread was that someone posted the Melville arbitration for everyone to read. That decision was March 2012. So I hope that everyone has read that and they will know what a bag of wind you are.
Sylvester can fire Liam for brining reproach on Local 804 by not putting the drivers back when he was told to and knowingly violating an arbitrators decision which put 250 drivers in the position they are in.
If Sylvester had balls he would fire Liam and show the membership he is concerned with their futures.
Read the Arbitration !

No he can't. Article XXII, Section 8 of the IBT Constitution stipulates that Elected Business Agents may be removed only according to the trial procedures set forth in the IBT Constitution or Local Union Bylaws.

That was stated last week? Why hasn't Tim done that yet?? To save himself and the TDU nation! He will let those drivers be terminated for the cause!! You all know this!!

I guess you need to tell Sylvester what he needs to do. Can the Joint Council or IRB investigate his actions?
i knew you only paid dues.

I don't think Tim needs me to tell him what he should do. I'm hoping that what he'll do is stand behind the language in Article 18, Section 4 of the Local 804 Supplement, stand behind Liam's actions to enforce that language and stand behind the Maspeth drivers who are facing discipline. A lot of people here are losing sight of the fact that it was UPS who violated the language in Article 18 and triggered this incident. When UPS begins to understand that they are required to abide by the procedure prescribed for the settlement of disputes and differences, they'll then be able to avoid future disruptions. Unfortunately, for too many years, this company has run roughshod over it's employees and gotten away with it. That has got to stop, and the first step to stopping it may be the backbone shown by those 250 drivers who just had enough of the corporate criminal mentality of UPS!

This thread, like many others has derailed into an IBT vs. TDU slugfest. Personally, I don't give two *^#}'s who's fault it is or how it could have been avoided. Can we get back to the drivers and union brothers who have their jobs on the line?

Are these drivers still working? Have there been any substantive changes in their situation?

I agree.
There are obvious TROLLS for both the IBT and TDU cruising the union board lately.
Some seem to have no other purpose in this community but to Troll for there perspective entities.
Perhaps those of us who haven't already, should stop feeding them.

And I would maintain that the current officers and business agents at Local 804 have, in fact, done their best to protect the members' interests in all dealings with employers. With UPS, that is not as simple as it sounds. At times, it's similar to protecting your family from the rabid skunk that wanders into your back yard. In dealing with a rogue employer like UPS, there comes a time when a union official must make a decision. Take the path of least resistance and ignore blatant contract violations or draw a line in the sand and stand behind the employees that they represent. Another part of that oath that you did not highlight states that I will never forget that it is the members who put me here, and it is the members whom I will serve. The members are never well served by union officials who take that path of least resistance. Nor are the well served by their co-workers who seize upon an opportunity to second guess and criticize. Perhaps they're able to somehow justify in their own minds their support of UPS over their brothers and sisters who stood strong, but it's a strange bedfellow they've chosen to side with in this struggle.

So you are saying those 250 jobs are the price of doing union activist work? I bet those guys wish they knew what your plan of action was before! You would have been standing out there bye yourself!!
