I'll address the first paragraph, let's see for math purposes, I will make it 10 dollars an hour saved on each driver replaced in terms of wages. So, 10 x 40 =400 . 400 dollars a week x 50 = 20,000. 20,000 x 250 = $5 million saved in wages for the first year( very conservative amount, not considering over time_. The only extra expense is hotels and and meal allowances for the driver sups brought in from far away. They were already collecting a salary anyway, posting idling reports on billboards. So from a money perspective, it's a winner.[/qu
That's not what you're hearing on this thread and that is not my interpretation! Everything would be a whole lot better if this never happened! That being said, it did happen! And Local 804 has been ready and willing to address this with UPS since the day it happened! It would appear that the next step is arbitration and Local 804 has strong protective language in the Supplement AND a previous arbitration decision that confirms that the Maspeth 250 and their Business Agent acted appropriately in standing up to a violation of the contract by UPS! It's never "no sweat - everything is great!!" when 250 drivers are placed on working terminations, but once UPS makes their decision on termination, it will be the last decision that UPS gets to make in this case! The next decisions will be made by arbitrators who have a bit more respect for the contract and the law!
Brown spider,
Lets see --you are not saying everything is great. After dismissal UPS has no more choices but Arbitration --open your eyes --The same can be said of the Union ----they have no decision at all --a lowly Business Agent already made it --Liam is not facing Arbitration --Correct ??
The correct action that day --was for Local 804 to file an expedited grievance on Procedure and the one dismissal ------not multiply the problem by 250 !!
You are saying that 250 Drivers and their Families are at the Mercy of what an Arbitrator will decide because of an Idiotic action by a Business Agent.
Of course UPS will just run to Arbitration even though their multi million dollar Attorneys have told them the Melville decision means they will automatically lose ??? I do not think so --and would not want to be one of the 250 !!
