In order to form the most accurate hypothesis, we must eliminate all variables - as such, the coitus must take place within a non-changing temperature zone, the coitus must be of an equal intensity throughout, and the participants must be familiar with the aforementioned activity so-as-to remove any unnecessary body heat generation due to excitement or embarrassment.
If I may expound for a moment, the participants should not consider the other a viable sexual mate to further reduce heat generation contributable by natural physical responses to stimulation. In addition, the exact motions of the intimacy must be predetermined to account for the delta in body heat for an individual going through the motions without being physiologically aroused.
In fact, it may be advisable to work out a new branch of mathematical theory and application, complete with its own axioms, which I will hereafter refer to as Sexological Calculus.

Operating under the assumption that two valid, viable, and willing participants have been found, it is now necessary for the two of you to come to an agreement as to the exact motions that the encounter (or encounters, as the case may be) will entail. Once decided upon, it is then a requirement for each of you to undertake such motions while measuring the energy expenditure (via thermal radiation - or "heat", if you will); how this is recorded is irrelevant, but the end result must be converted to joules to afford maximum scientific accuracy. It should go without saying, but alas it does not - British Thermal Units is not an acceptable metric in this endeavor.
Some helpful starting places are in order. One joule can roughly be approximated as follows:
- The energy released as heat by a person at rest, every hundredth of a second,
- The kinetic energy of a 50kg (110 lb) human moving very slowly (0.2 m/s or 720 m/h)
- The kinetic energy of a tennis ball moving at 23 km/h (14 mph)
I am no expert, but it should be observed that the velocity vector for item number 2 seems a little low for two healthy persons engaging in coitus; however, I am highly skeptical that even the most energetic and fervent practitioner could reach the velocities associated with item number 3. However, this is all irrelevant due to the difference in mass - as the joule is a unit dependent on that of the newton, whose value is relative to the mass of the object being accelerated, this is obvious.
In the interest of scientific accuracy, this activity should take place in a vacuum to reduce environmental entropy. While NASA and other international agencies have not responded to my inquiries regarding time on their space vessels to begin preliminary investigations, I remain hopeful. Additionally, it would be much easier to account for and remove the noise caused by the Cosmic Microwave Background, whose values are relatively well known thanks to the work by COBE/WMAP/Planck Surveyor, than it would be to account for and remove the noise caused by the inherent chaos of terrestrial radio communications.
... Wait, what was the original point? Ahh .. I forget; spent too much time reading about WMAP and the CMB.
