I agree that they are being dicks but you also have to agree that someone who has been working for a month should at least have the phone number for where they work.
The folks at the 1-800# have been instructed to never give out the local numbers for any of the UPS facilities.
When you do go back to work make sure that you have your immediate supervisor's cell phone number on speed dial.
