A few years ago (10?) we visited Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas (the Fort not the prison) When you get inside the gate there is a big statue of a group of Black soldiers charging the enemy (American Indians at that time). The plaque reads that they were called Buffalo Soldiers by the Indians because the were brave - like the buffalo. Then we toured the museum and everything in there said the Indians called them buffalo soldiers because their hair was similar to that of a buffalos. Another case of political correctness run amuck.
