New Driver vacation dilemma

I will have made one year driving on Sept 10th 2014. Problem is my wedding is Oct 18th & I would like to take my honeymoon in late Oct/Nov time frame. Since I will have more than one year driving by that time would I be able to take a weeks vacation even without having any picks yet? I hear that we got to pick in January but I have to wait till next January to get my vacation bids. I still have an unused vacation from working inside but that's going to reset in May.

Never hurts to ask. When I was hired, I had several commitments I needed to make during my first year, they were flexible with me.

Stripe is asking to use a 2015 vacation week in 2014. If it were the last week of December it may be an option but I highly doubt they will let him do that in late October.

I hear January honeymoons can still be quite nice.

I can't see why this would be a problem. He will have vacation time by then and a option week. The wedding is 10/18/14.

Why don't you ask if you can take the week ending 10/25 off or 11/01? Not too many guys off then.

If you read his post a bit more carefully you will see that he bids vacations in January so, no, he will not have any vacation time available until 1/2015.

Why not ask your center manager if you can take a vacation week unpaid. If you are a decent driver they will Probably work with you. Your center should have casuals by then.

Depends on you supplement, in the Central supplement 16(b) states as follows:

Any employee who attains seniority must work an entire year in order to be eligible for vacation. Once eligible, the employee will select an available week between the eligibility date and the week of Thanksgiving of that year. If there are no weeks available the employee will be paid in lieu of time off. The Option week may be taken after the completion of the eligible year.

Was the OP a ptimer who picked vaca as so? Here, when you move up, pt to driver/ PC to feeder, whatever vaca picks you made by your seniority in the previous position you are allowed to take in your new position. The next vacation picks would be made by your seniority in your new position.

I'm not a driver but I'm in your local. We can't roll over sick/personal days but we can roll over vacations (I've done it)....but being you're now a driver and it's your PTer vacation...not sure exactly how that works. Talk to your steward...and talk to Neil.

You can roll vacations? How many? You could take a whole year off, if you didn't take any for 8 years.

I'm not sure if there's an actual limit...I only get 3 weeks vacation so I usually take all of it, but a couple of years ago, I did roll a week over. Some locals can roll over their sick days....

We don't get paid "sick" days, we get an extra week vacation(option week). We get 6 occurrences in 6 months, unpaid of course.

What I would do, is read the contract, your situation is covered. Once you understand it, go to your boss and say, "I will be eligible for vacay on this date, I would like to take these weeks off. I checked the vacation calender and those weeks are open."

Most of the time, that approach will work. That would assume that those weeks are indeed open. In my center, we have the vacation schedule posted, which shows how many are off each week. If all the weeks are full, you could be looking at a Spring honeymoon.

I agree with upschuck. That's exactly how it works in central states.

Cach, central states that is only ft to ft. Like me going to feeders. Whatever I scheduled in package carried over to feeders. Pt to full time driving you are paid off your pt vacations for that year, after a year is up you have earned your ft vacations.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
Save your money go on a trip for your 4 year anniversary or something. I was in a very similar situation to u. I went into driving 2 months before I got married.

If the wife doesn't understand ups can ruin a lot of things. It may be time to find a new job or wife........
