Apple isn't a bad operating system.Just overpriced and limited ability to upgrade plus forced to use their peripherals. Linux is cheap (basically free) but tends to be buggy and won't work for everything. OK to play around with but I wouldn't trust it for anything important. Which leaves Windows. Which can be very good but you do need to know a bit about what is best. Once you get things set up not a problem.

Let's get this started.

The operating system is OS X, Apple is the company.

What 'peripherals' won't run on one of my machines.

Linux is based on Unix, as is OS X. We have already had the bugs worked out.

As far as trusting OS X and Mac's, my son is a professional photographer. He uses Mac's exclusively, so I guess he has trust in the system.

Both OS X and Linux are based on Unix, agreed. Difference is Apple has total control over everything so it works and is reliable. I never said it wasn't. Linux is a different beast. Open source with no control. Some of it works ok but not all of it.

Not total control. Third-party programs can be run on OS X, and not all seamlessly. Flash is the biggest example.

As for the control of the App Store, I like it. Any app I download for my phone or iPad has already been tested and vetted before it makes it into the App Store. I would never trust any Android app. Who knows what is incorporated into them?

OS X isn't like iOS. Apple's control is a lot smaller. You can download full programs outside of the App Store that They never even heard of.
