You need to be careful or the yeast on bottom can leave a nasty taste if you let it mix with the beer. And it can have a fruity, cidery taste if you use cane sugar instorn of corn sugar. Also the temperature is important. Ales ferment at room temperature and even if you use a lager yeast it will behave like ale if you let it ferment at warmer temperatures. You need to use a refrigerator and keep it below 40 degrees or so to get the light lager taste of most American beers.
