We (hubby) just took down one , (35 ft. tall). It was in our front courtyard and the roots were starting to push up the cement slabs that make the floor of our courtyard. It had to go.
They peel like crazy.....big sheets of bark(paper).
He's still working on getting the stump out......

Our house was one of the models when these homes were selling back in 2000, so they planted mature trees.....they got too big!!

When I thought of birch trees, I always thought of this kind. Never knew the other one was a birch also.

I never put the two together because the bark looks different. Here the bark looks like any other tree until about mid way up the tree then it's smooth and turns white.

Doc said it was deep enough I wouldve needed surgery to remove it when it happened...lol
