off the railroad ??

lol I'll see if I can remember everything I "heard" from non valuable sources. In other words take it for whatever you want.

UPS got outbid by natural gas

Losing rail only from east coast to Chicago

Losing rail only from west coast to Chicago

A train car cost 2500$ under old contract new contract would have been 3500$

If a trailer is late and misses service rail is responsible and covers expenses new contract would have made ups responsible

Trains just plain and simple taking to long

Losing the rail in September 2014 (I know we are past September)

I think that's all I heard if I remember anything else I'll post again. All I can say whoever knows what's going on with the rail is doing one hell of a job not telling anybody. Almost as if, if this gets out they're out of a job because NOBODY knows anything.

It's really quite simple-----the trains are going to ride the Bakken oil boom until the oil runs dry, which makes a lot of sense. UPS got put on the back burner and decided to take control of the situation by adding sleeper teams.

I agree with you on the oil boom upstate but my hub hasn't seen any more sleepers. I do know we are starting to shuttle more trailers than normal to meet points or centers of exchange that.

With the peak we had last year we don't exactly need customers amazon in general knowing that we either losing or getting rid of the rail. Not that anybody else could do the job we do but the media killed us last year. We wouldn't be hiring nationwide like crazy if nothing was going on... It's just a matter of what's going on. I'm sure we will hear about it here or on FB before anywhere else.

Latest word on the east coast is UPS will be using contractors to move trailers from the midwest east.

Another "rumour" is that all the rails that go into Baltimore will go to Pittsburgh and be moved from there by both us and additional gypsies. ...

Oil will use the railroads until the pipeline is built. Oil is already planning it across a big corner of my state. In the mean time the railroads are updating a lot of their tracks and turning over a lot of unused lines to "rails to trails" (bike trails) in my state.

From what I heard, some big oil outbid us for space, so we lost a lot of rail that was coming in/out of Philly. We hired extra Feeders to move it ourselves.

What I heard is my car will have approximately the same number of stops tomorrow that it did today. Thats about as far as my interest in all of this goes. Rail, sleepers, peak, whatever. I enjoy coming to work and don't plan on ruining that by caring to much about stuff I have no control over.

I do know a train missed and the rail paid gypsies to deliver the trailers to their destination. That was on the rail though not ups.
