Because two things define politics, abortion, and the 2nd amendment. Where you are on those two things defines what party you belong to. People don’t vote with their wallet anymore. It’s all about our culture and how the want the people to behave. And Elon musk is on the left of both of those issues.

That's what defines politics....for you. And for me.
Elon has significant party overlap with current Republican positions on things that matter TO HIM. He gets to decide how things weigh against each other in his own mind.
So he has declared he will vote Republican. This isn't difficult, except for someone continually unable to understand that others think differently.

All current Republican proposals are to the left of Obama on gay marriage, and they spend gobs more money than Obama ever dreamed.
And they assume the existence of obamacare, and fight to keep it rather than expanded even more. They are fighting for more government health care than Obama did, and that's because they're trying to keep the Democrats from going farther.
Republicans are fighting for farther left sexual education for children in the "don't say gay" bill then Obama did. That's because Democrats have gone so far wildly left, that any attempt to stop them is still to the left of obama.
