Okay so I was just hired on with UPS as a package handler. I wanted to know are there any benefits to me having my class A cdl, forklift certification A and B? Will this help me progress through the company I really took this job to cram my foot in the door, but in the same hand I understand I'm much more than a preloader/package handler. Please words of wisdom. Thank you on advance

Edit: I havent started yet but only read negative things about this hence the discouragement. I dont want to quit and receive that negative rehire

You can rule out the freight city driver position as UPS Freight is a separate division.

The natural progression is to start as a package handler, make your way up to package car driver and eventually to feeder driver. This progression is all done in seniority order.

Your certifications will come in handy if and when you are awarded a feeder driver position.

Another question. Can I apply on the website for other positions regardless if Im working there? I just don't want to be stuck forever, I went out and trained hard for my cdl it would be a shame to waste it.

Don't forget to mention that the feeder department is the backbone of the company. Lol.

UPS awards jobs based on seniority. Look up the definition of seniority if you do not know what it is.

I know the definition of seniority! I was just asking a question as I am new to this site. Thanks for the input

"Off the street" hires are those people who did not start by working on the inside.

Some of the best drivers are hired off the street.

Now an even better question. Will I be ineligible for this position if I am working inside? I was told not to quit due to the negative rehire status.
