I watched the ceremony live on KTLA.

The shuttle is sitting at LAX awaiting transport to the science museum 12 miles away. The city is in the process of removing 400 trees to accomodate the 78' wingspan of the shuttle. NASA has promised to plant 2 trees for every one removed and to repair any sidewalks damaged as a result but residents are quite upset at the loss of 400 mature trees in a land of concrete and asphalt.

I listened to the people talking about that. It does seem that they could have thought about that. But, they had a ceremony at LAX. It was very nice.

When you were in L.A., did you not notice that all the boulevards and street dividers are planted with oleander or some oter flowering bush, or lined with stately palms. Road dividers in SLC, Utah were lucky to be weeded, but were just sand.

The concrete is for the freeways.

Guess it will be better, but as an old school person, We were number #1 in this area
with NASA.

The one thing I fear with a private enterprise would be whether their priority is safety or profit. With a government agency this is not an issue as you know for certain that they will lose money on whatever project they are working on.
