I think people that enlist to serve should be paid. Some people here apparently don’t. They just want free national defense without paying the bill, disgraceful if you ask me.

You brought up the Federal Governments scope and power...even if the Federal Government just stuck to what the Constitution laid out (i.e. National Defense), you propose that should be paid for on a State-by-State basis?

Never said that but National Guard units are under the control of the governor of the individual state. But since everybody here is in love with state's rights and seem to be promoting the expansion of them that evil federal government might not be able to federalize a national guard because of state's rights.

In keeping with what seems to be support for expanded states rights on your part and based on your previous comments it appears that you live in Texas . If that is the case it is important to note that with 15% of it's citizens receiving SNAP benefits it places Texas 24th highest on the list of states. In addition for every dollar Texas sends to the federal government approximately $1.55 in federal dollars comes back to it which makes Texas a "taker" not a "donor" state.
