when i was in it always meant something when the leadership spent the holidays with the troops. i would have even appreciated having jimmy carter visit us then even though i disagree with him politically.

some things should transcend politics.

Then what's the problem if war is political? He's a politician after all.

Who said there’s a problem?

Why act like something isn’t what it is?

This is something I’ve never understood.

I can’t think of anything more political than war and yet people innately jump to insisting it shouldn’t be.
You appeared to be criticizing Newfie for saying some things transcend politics and appeared to be inferring Trump was only there as a photo op. Taking advantage of a war to boost his image. I see a man who sincerely appreciates the troops and wanted to show it.

It’s not critical to say that war is political.

It may be critical to wonder why people say war shouldn’t be political, that war should transcend politics.

Why? Because war in its essence is political. It doesn’t make sense to say it shouldn’t be what it is.

LMAO, this is Obama's speech at the White House Correspondent's dinner IN 2011:

"Donald Trump is here tonight. Now I know that he’s taken some flak lately. But no one is happier—no one is prouder—to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald.

And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter: Like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?

All kidding aside, obviously we all know about your credentials and breadth of experience. For example … no seriously, just recently, in an episode of Celebrity Apprentice, at the steakhouse, the men’s cooking team did not impress the judges from Omaha Steaks. And there was a lot of blame to go around, but you, Mr. Trump, recognized that the real problem was a lack of leadership, and so ultimately you didn’t blame Lil Jon or Meat Loaf, you fired Gary Busey.

And these are the kinds of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir. Well handled. Say what you will about Mr. Trump, he certainly would bring some change to the White House. Let’s see what we’ve got up there."

Little did Obama know that he stoked Trump's fire.

NOT SO FUNNY NOW, IS IT, OBAMA?
I still get a good chuckle out of it. Obama hit the nail on the head, but drove the nail through his big toe. The Apprentice was how the American people really got familiar with the name Donald Trump. It is based at least in part on his television persona that he got 48%of the popular vote. What does not come through, unsurprisingly, on The Apprentice is how unsuccessful he really was in business. Personally well off over the course of his (primarily) real estate career, he was a master of extracting personal wealth out of a truly staggering string of business failures. He left a trail of businesses gone bust, unpaid contractors and lenders. When they scoped out the board room before beginning to film The Apprentice, they noted it looked like it hadn't had any work done on it since the 70s. They had to completely gut and remodel the place to project the image of a big time successful business. People swallowed that image hook, line and sinker.

The President is the Commander in Chief. When you serve you are taught to respect the chain of command, regardless of whether you respect whomever may be in the Oval Office so, yes, you set politics aside whenever you have "company".

That is fine.

It does not, however, change the fact that war is political.

Absolutely it is political-----for those in charge.

Much like the "war" between UPS and FedEx, the only ones who really care about that are upper management. Those of us in the "trenches" could care less about any rivalry that may exist between us------we all have the same goal.

You think Odumbo was any better?
I think not.
Trump and Obama are flip sides of the same coin.

Where’s the soapbox?

Simply had to explain to van because simple statements seem to be too much for him to digest.

Kinda had to chew it up and spit it down his throat for him, baby bird style.

you responded to my post in which I commented on how it actually means something when leaders visit the troops by letting us know war is political.

my post has nothing to do with the political realities of war , yours was a soapbox moment.

sorry you had a hateful thanksgiving and felt you needed to vent. try to be nicer to the family and maybe they'll invite you next year.
