Question about appointment, available dates, etc

Hello all.
I have an appointment for this Friday the 14th for a part time package handler job. Not sure what version of the tour, or tour then interview this will be as it seems to be different depending on location.

The thing is, I will be out of town the first week in August, and not able to work. Would I be better off trying to get an appointment towards the end of this month? I mean lets say things go well, I get an interview, and an offer or whatever...I really dont want to say "ok, but I cant work that week" afraid they might tell me to go pound sand......or do I just push forward and tell them I cant start til August 7th.....Id hate to have an orientation, some training, then miss a week ya know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Go forward and tell them. It takes a little time for the whole process to complete, so it may be a non issue anyways.

Thanks for the replies! Ive been working in a non climate controlled cement floored shop for alot of years already, 98 in the summer, cold in the winter, so that part will be about right from what I hear. (printing industry). This would be a part time job, no intentions of leaving my day job. We'll see....

i went in this morning and it was just an information session. I was a little disappointed as the job i applied for on the ups site said part time package handler for an area which would have worked well with my existing commute. The info session was in another area all together...turns out the actual job was as well..they were hiring for the location where the info session was, as well as for another location that was on the other side of town..both of which were at least 30 minutes away from the area that was advertised. Pays less than what was listed to boot. I went through the ups website all the way with this its not like some third party was listing this job...i asked the lady about that... she said they dont have the type of facility that uses package handlers at the location that was in yhe listing that i applied to. Ummm so if they don't have any package handler jobs in xyz area, why make a job listing that implies you do? Or at the least say " this job listing is for the following actual locations". Doesn't bode well in my book.

:censored2:'em then. Ask to be moved to the closest center. If one is 5 minutes away just tell them you'd be right down the road if they ever needed anything. HR is just trying to meet hiring goals so they get paid more. If they know you're planning on making this long term and you're not one of the people who quit after a week, they may be a bit more flexible. Saved me a 40 minute commute and got me a 1.50 raise haha.
