Senators get unlimited sick days and make $174,000 and the Republicans banned together to fight against rail workers having sick days.

Get off your knees. Stop worshiping MAGA and Alex Jones . And find a valid reason why the Republicans decided rail workers didn't deserve sick days.

People on the other side think Biden and Democrats are evil. They will never believe facts, only opinions.

Yeah I can also recognize it was over for the workers the second Biden stepped in. Biden specifically said he wanted it passed without sick days.

The fact is neither side is for the working class. Yes one side is open about that fact but neither care about them. So what’s it really matter if one is openly against them and the other pretends to be for them but does nothing for them?

The Democrats voted for paid sick days while the Republicans voted it down.

All political posturing from both sides. Not rocket science man.

Both sides do this stuff. Oh we are gonna put x bill together and vote knowing it has zero chance of passing so we can crow and blame the other side.

The only way the sick days ever had a chance was to tie them into the contract. If the Dems wanted sick days so bad why didn’t they do that?

The only reason it did not pass was because the Republicans blocked it.

Dear United States Congress Representatives and Senators:

Today, the Senate voted and passed legislation to adopt tentative agreements (with side letters and local carrier agreements) between the railroads and Unions to resolve this round of national negotiations and avert a national rail strike or lockout or shut down by the carriers. A disruption to our nation’s economy and supply chain has been averted. But the Senate also voted to reject the bill that would provide paid sick leave for all Railroad Workers. This leaves me baffled, exasperated, and deeply saddened.

The Federal Government inserted itself into the dispute between the railroads and the Railroad Workers under the premise that it must protect the American economy. Yet, when the Federal Government makes that decision, its Representatives have a moral responsibility to also protect the interests of the citizens that make this nation’s economy work – American Railroaders. That is, Members of Congress were obligated to vote to pass paid sick leave for all Railroad Workers. The Representatives were not obligated to protect the exceeding profits of the corporations. A number of Members of Congress chose - yet again - to trample on the Workers, in their rush to cozy up to the corporations.

It is shocking and appalling that any Member of Congress would cast a vote against any sort of provision that raises the standard of living for hard-working Americans. In fact, such a vote is nothing less than anti-American, an abdication of their oath of office and you are deemed, in my eyes, unworthy of holding office. I am resolved to shine a light on their votes over this issue, because all Railroad Workers deserve to know, and need to know who will stand and fight with them for what is right and just. They also deserve to know and need to know those who are willing to put them in harm’s way to save their own political and personal self-interests.

Thank you to all Members of Congress who supported paid sick leave for Railroad Workers. We deeply appreciate your willingness to fight for the Working Class. We are resolved to continue the fight for paid sick leave for Railroad Workers, and we ask for your continued support to secure it through whatever means possible. We are here and ready to work with you on moving America forward, and to raise the standards for Railroad Workers and all Working Class people.

Statement from the President of the BMWED. Yeah he's not exactly thrilled with Republicans voting against paid sick leave. I mean he literally calls them Anti-american.

1) revenue is not profit.

2) I think most union members are happy to pay $100 a month for a pension, health benefits and top wages.
1. Make does not mean net.

Lol… if y’all earn so much, as you stated, then why is everybody so fired up to strike? Most people don’t even know what they’re striking for. They just like the idea of hanging outside of their workplace holding a beer and a sign, calling UPS greedy. All while making 100K+ for delivering packages. This got to be an episode of the twilight zone And you are the star of it.

While we are grateful to the 52 Senators, 218 House Democrats, and 3 lone House Republicans who stood with rail workers by voting for seven days of paid sick leave, the harsh reality is that too many elected leaders turned their backs on their constituents.

Shame on the 43 Senators and 207 House Republicans who abandoned the working class and sided with billion-dollar rail corporations. Because of them, President Biden is not able to sign a resolution today that guarantees seven days of paid sick leave to all rail workers.

From the AFL-CIO

Yeah the unions are coming out pretty strongly against the members of Congress that voted against sick leave.

Do part timers not exist to you?

Even then…all drivers deserve to be compensated the same. We deserve not to live at work. We deserve sick days. We deserve better than inflation raises. We can go on and on.

As prescribed by the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution, the SMART Transportation Division acknowledges the ability of Congress to legally impose the Tentative National Rail Agreement upon the operating-craft employees represented by the SMART-TD. While it is unfortunate that our members were not able to approve the agreement in which they work under, we thank the President, House Speaker, Senate leadership, and Cabinet members for their support at the negotiating table and on the floor of Congress in an attempt to achieve more for our members.

It is extremely disappointing that 43 Senators voted to prioritize the corporate greed of rail carriers and CEOs over the needs and quality-of-life improvements that our members so desperately deserve. Because of Precision Scheduled Railroading, our members are forced to work more hours, have less stability, suffer more stress and receive less rest. The ask for sick leave was not out of preference, but rather out of necessity. No American worker should ever have to face the decision of going to work sick, fatigued or mentally unwell versus getting disciplined or being fired by their employer, yet that is exactly what is happening every single day on this nation’s largest freight railroads.

The Senators who opposed the measure all have paid sick days, as do their staff. Apparently, they believe the nation’s rail workers are “essential” to the American economy and supply chain, but not essential enough to deserve the same protection as them when becoming ill. By voting against that measure, these Senators made no illusions that they side with the decision that is most economically beneficial to their deep-pocketed corporate donors.

Our efforts to improve the lives of our membership will continue during future negotiations, as well as in the regulatory and legislative process. The American rail worker has spoken, as have the American rail shippers. The national freight rail network is broken, and the need for long-term rail reform is clear. Labor and shippers are united on this front. More must be done to reverse the harmful effects of Precision Scheduled Railroading and to right the ship for this nation’s economy and the hard-working members of SMART-TD.

SMART-TD

All 4 unions that voted against the contract have came out and thanked the Democrats for fighting for them and Condemned the Republicans for fighting against them.

Yes, but does teamster know they exist? Seems like they were left out in the contract.

Why do you deserve these things? Because you work for ups? Just asking..
