Schumer Shutdown Showdown

So we'll have selective service for the elderly. No one gets around it, everyone chips in, even those with adequate funds. It's a burden to society getting old and these old folks better pull their weight. The money taken out of their paychecks in the past? They were chumps to think it was actually meant for them.
The money taken out of our checks during our working years doesn't come close to paying for the benefits that are paid out during retirement. We have to make up the difference somewhere.

Of course you folks never account for inflation(early on your contributions were worth much more) or that no sane person invests in anything without expectation of getting a return on their investment. And people contributing today will be paid with more dollars decades from now. Inflation.

Problem is that our government never invested any of those funds so no return on investment. That money was spent as it came in and all we have now is IOU's.

no you did respond to bbsam's trollish response on that subject from there it evolved into a debate on Medicare recipients working for their beni's
So exactly why did you need to tell me the difference between Medicare and Medicaid? I responded to his statement about Medicare, and that's all we talked about since. Did I ruin a thread for you?

No, he was referring to the elderly working for Medicare, otherwise it should be abolished.
Not really. Just that there are major drivers of the debt that need to be dealt with. It is my position that they are more in peril because of the tax cuts. It is incumbent therefore, for the republicans to make the spending cuts and everything is on the table.

IOU's that they've been paying on and will until trust fund runs out in, last I saw, 2033 but I think that's been moved back. After that all they'll have is paycheck deductions and employer match(on SS, don't know about Medicare).

Where is this trust fund that you speak of? Off shore bank?

And Democrats will resist, with the help of the media, Repubs will lose control(which is what you're after)and it'll be business as usual. The country is screwed because when they had a balanced budget instead of paying down debt then and building a surplus they went on a spending spree that has only gotten worse. And too many have their irons in the fire to let it stop.

I am advocating for the opposite. We've done the simple things. Now they have to go all in...if they really intend to fix it.
