Seeking some advice..

Hello, fellow UPSers..My name's Chris, I work at a UPS center in central NY. I got hired in as a part time preloader in June of 2013 and prior to that, I worked as a driver helper for 3 consecutive peak seasons (which is what helped me get in.) I officially qualified last month as a cover driver and have only drove a couple times since then, probably won't drive again until the peak madness begins. I just can't help but get discouraged at times and wonder if I'm selling myself short..I know there's several guys retiring within the next 5 years (first one's leaving this coming Feb/ March) but as the bottom guy on the totem pole, I just don't know how long I can wait. I know this turns into a great career years down the road, but in the meantime, it's very difficult trying to live off what I'm trying to live off, in addition to a part time security job on weekends. I try to just take things one day at a time, stay humble and do my job to the best of my ability. I know management likes me, but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for myself..Any advice please?..Thanks.

Are you permanent full time cover driver? If you are you can bump into the building.

I just turned 26, a couple of weeks ago. Got hired in about 6 weeks before I turned 25. Some of these guys that are about to retire didn't get started until they were close to 30..I work in Rome.

A lot of people waited quite a bit longer for a FT gig. Pretty sure there is a very current thread where someone asked how long people had to wait. Maybe read that.

Not really. I worked at a casino for 6 years (from the ages of 18-24) worked my way up through 3 departments. I then left (a few months before I got hired in @UPS,) to try something different. Had some bumps in the road along the way, but at this point I feel my best option is to just try and stick it out. I just get real discouraged some days is all. Some of these guys are at 8-12 years now, and aren't even full time yet..

Most Help Needed
I worked three jobs at one point while part time at UPS. Nearly cost me my marriage.

I have very little experience in anything outside of blowing stuff up. Too old and too worn out To re up in the military so I don't have many options.

Now many years later my wife threatens to divorce me every time I bring up changing careers.

Hang tight. It's hard work but it pays off.

It dosent have to be , think of it like this , you are making time and a half for every hour they work you over 8 hours this peak. That is going to be a lot of money for a man your age. Take it one package at a time, don't get overwhelmed or flustered. You can only do so much. Take it one package at a time and focus your thoughts on that ot cash my friend.

If you are worried about the lack of money, and if you can not bump an inside person, you should be able to file for unemployment. It may PO some management, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck brother.
