Thats a good CPU but why not get the X3 and unlock the fourth core?

Not a guarantee, and afaik it only works with a specific motherboard, a Biostar I think.

Didn't know you could do that, but I have an ASUS motherboard lined up for it.

Have any of you guys tried CrossFire-ing video cards? Seems like a huge waste to me, unless you're that nitpicky about millisecond latencies...

I've been an Nvidia guy since 3dfx went under, so no crossfire here, but I've never run SLI either. I don't see the need unless you're playing the latest fps games at max resolution with all the visuals cranked up. If and when I get around to building this HTPC I will probably switch and go with ATI because their HDMI cards are measurably better than Nvidia's. It'll still be a single card solution though.
