Should part time employees make the same rate as full time employees?

My goodness. I have had to had said this 50 times by now

I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT DRIVERS

Drivers have a different responsibility than loaders. I’m talking about part time warehouse vs full time warehouse

10 years loading part time is $15 an hour. A full time warehouse employee doing the same exact work makes $34 an hour
And what job classification is “full time package handler”?

You are a package handler. The full time employee is not.

Lol. You needing money doesn’t mean the company should pay more.
So you just made bad logic and now abandon it? I don’t care what the company thinks I need. This is a union position, it should be equal pay for equal work after progression

Why are you so concerned about part time workers making a living wage and not about the shareholders making billions?

Part timer chiming in, I've been to parking lot meetings, voted in union elections national and local. I signed every single full time bid 22.3, 22.4, cover driver, air driver, etc. Just haven't gotten anything approved though I've been here a few years already. I also have 2 gigs I do after preload shift.

Preload is :censored2:ing hard. Last year I noticed we got about 5 hours to load 700 - 800 pieces. We have the same volume this year because management has condensed routes as last year or in some cases more volume and they've slowly squeezed our hours down to 4 a day.

I feel like we're being squeezed for every bit of work to death this contract year for a reason unknown to me. Sometimes I find myself running from truck to truck just to keep up with flow. You do not want to be anywhere near last one off the clock management will scream at you, so I'm one of the first just so I don't have to be verbally abused.

The thing that confuses me here is I thought it was very kind that union members, mostly drivers, most part timers in my building have jobs right after ups work and can't attend union meetings; these drivers are fighting hard for us to make 25/hr and most of the ones I talk to on a daily basis are all for it helping their loader. On this forum I have lurked and many drivers apparently don't want to fight for us part timers as well.

I'm disheartened now after lurking this forum for so long, I guess a belief that I had that most drivers treat their part timers as brothers to the point that they are fighting primarily for us isn't completely correct.
We’re fighting for you, but it comes in increments.

Can’t just expect it to be fixed in one contract.
That seems to be what Sean is fighting for if I understand correctly. He addresses rewarding long term part time workers and catch up raises. But I could be wrong
yes. And most full timers stands with you and Sean on this.

I don’t understand why he’s fighting everyone so hard???

We all agree that part timers deserve a really solid raise.
Just not to top rate.

What I always find interesting is the people who say everyone should make the same rate get mad if they’re not getting some sort of catch up raise for the years they’ve been here.

Because you haven’t logically explained why a fully progressed part time worker doesn’t deserve equal pay for equal work

What’s deserved and what is agreed-upon contractually are really not the same thing though. I’m assuming you’re going to vote no if it’s not the same rate is 22.3?

Part timers have fewer responsibilities, therefore they get fewer dollars.

It isn’t equal work because the combo employee has more responsibilities, even if some days all he does is load or unload.

So we shouldn’t be fighting to get rid of 22.4 right? Bunch of whiners? It’s a different classification and it’s what we contractually agreed upon, just leave it how it is?
We are getting rid of it and we should get rid of it. Unfortunately, it was our side that thought it was a good idea. But be that as it may, they’re still going to be different classifications.
