I know of many people who were terminated, but the union saved them.

I can't think of any reason why the company would rehire someone they fired and the union failed to save them.

At best I can imagine a seasonal worker who didn't quite make the cut, but wasn't terrible and be reconsidered for another temp position.

Time to pay your union hall a visit, talk to the ba file wrongful termination. I can't see this sticking, lowered to suspension and back within a month.
