Trump has never met a strongman he didn't like. And some Republicans probably think of the Russians as cultural and religious allies. Especially as leftists become increasingly whacko here in the US. Also the Biden/Burisma stuff.
Haven't heard much about the general GOP view on Taiwan. But people should understand how much of a disaster the capture or destruction of TSMC would be for the world in 2023.

China trying to or successfully taking Taiwan would cause an economic ruin for the world that would make 2008 or COVID look like nothing. Even if America did nothing and let China do what they want.
