I guess you have never done roof tear off and shingle or any flat concrete work. Delivery driving is the easiest job I have ever had.
I have done heavy construction work among many other things. I get the point you are trying to make. Some other jobs are harder and get paid less. But in my experience ups preload and RPCD are just as physical as laying carpet or roofing but with added super harassment from management.

Oh I definitely agree about the daily harassment and the physical requirements of working PT at most UPS Union jobs. How many PT jobs pay $44/hr?

I left 10% in there for construction job because I did those quite a bit when I was younger and it’s pretty damn hard work. It’s also feast or famine. My hat is off too those who make their living doing that every day.

I was a lazy package car driver. And I'm a lazier feeder driver. I put on up to 70 lbs in package at one point. Very easy to get the job done if you're lazy and have your route down pat and your customers trained.
70lbs. Got damn you must be as big as your average feeder driver

I know my city should be safe. There’s 3 centers here and the closest hub is 150 miles away. Unless they decide to build one large giant hub then that would be fantastic because it should have been done years before Boeing bought all the land surrounding the airport

That’s what I thought 😣…. Closet hub not 150 miles away but I thought 40-50 would still make me safe…Unfortunately I was wrong

Dovetail; unfortunately going to be a word used on a lot of these threads throughout the year…. Too young to retire too old to start over make the best of a 💩 situation I guess
Sheesh I'm sorry man. That sounds like a nightmare. I'm probably around the same age as you. Do you live in a metro area or is it kinda rural? I haven't heard any rumblings of it happening near my building so far.

I thiiink I might be safe cuz my hub is the closest one to the airport. Like only a few miles away.

Management team (most of whom I like some not so much ) are pretty much SOL the way it’s starting to seem ; not so long ago it seemed as if these kids ( mid 20 something’s) would be at ups for the rest of their lives… too bad for the good kids ( yes there are a few) management doesn't really recognize seniority

I see your point that there are some construction jobs that are the same or less physical than UPS jobs, but roofing is definitely not one of them. I've helped friends tear off and reroof and I was way more tired in one day than I've ever been at UPS...and both times I've done that was a nice day out. Doing that out in the sun on a 90 degree day must be brutal.

That’s close enough. Our center only builds loads to the 2 other buildings in shorts and to the ground hub 150 miles away. There’s a lot of volume that gets delivered in this city between our 3 centers. There’s no way they would shut us down. Only 1 center builds loads to other cities.

How is automation going to replace a delivery driver walking a package up to someone's front door?
Let alone carry a bulk stop of 20 packages that equate to 200lbs on a dolly parton up three flights. That tech doesn’t exist at the moment. Just look at the fat body r2d2 police officer protecting the subways of new york. The day one of those robots are kneeling on someones neck is the day people should be afraid of automations doing deliveries.

Long time ago, I tore a roof off that was boards (on bottom,) old shingles, chipboard screwed down, then more old shingles on top. I got sloppy, and was prying so hard the rafter I was sitting on snapped, and I fell through onto some appliances they had stored below... (It hurt.)

And, I still think being hung over on a Saturday air route, when the plane was 2hrs late, it's 108° on a windless day, and your digging for a missing parcel in the back of the truck at 11:45...

Is worse.

Some say sudden infant death syndrome started after pharmaceutical companies got Immunity from prosecution. And now we have sads since the experimental clot shot. Nothing to see here folks. Big business is your friend.
Babies are just fragile man. Watch a sleeping baby breathe… they all will stop here and there especially when very young.
