The former president was hell-bent on destroying NATO, that is what Putin wanted, so why would Putin attack if he was getting everything he wanted?
How so again?

As I understand all Trump wanted was for the NATO countries to fulfill their monetary obligation, not relying on the US to unproportionally carry the burden.

I may be in error, please correct me.

The former president that you refer to acquiesced to Putin and Xi.

The former president wanted our allies to pay their fair share. They are now seeing his point.

At the end of the day it's Russia killing innocent civilians. Women and children. Ukraine wanting to join NATO shouldn't have any bearing. NATO doesn't need to be right up against Russia to attack it. NATO is a defensive alliance and Russia just proved why.
NATO is of too strategic importance for russia to give it up according to that truth telling high up in the bush admin whos interviews ive posted here. so your 3rd point is moot.

nato is not a defensive alliance. they changed their mission to secure energy and transport routes worldwide. theres probably more on NATO aggression as well.

NATO drill called Cold Response.
It started today.
The exercise includes 30,000 troops from more than 25 countries from Europe and North America, 200 aircraft, and 50 vessels.
The largest NATO exercise which is held just a few miles from the Russian border was planned long before Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
The aim of the drill is to test how Norway and Alliance members would work together on land, in the air, and at sea in line with Article 5 of NATO's charter, which requires member states to come to the aid of another member state under attack.
